  Politics Of Dancing: R.E.S.P.E.C.T.!
The Politics Of Dancing

James Brown
R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
What’s the meaning of words? Although I may appear once more on a hard tip, I can’t help wondering about it judging by the attitude to a handful of people on their constant will to look for situations allowing them to take advantages when not giving a single Dime in return. A reality which one day or another leads to a policy and the unevitable rules that come with resulting in the subsequent decrease of our supposed prerogatives as time goes…

One again, too many things end up killing THE  thing but THE thing in question is none other than our freedom, because too many freedom obviously allows us to deviate from the supposedly fair behaviour. In other words and as opposed to live as if everything had to be taken for granted, let’s wonder to which extend our current way of living may not have consequences on our tomorrow… And no doubt how it definitely has and and on almost every aspects of life, from our own health depending on what we eat to the pollution of our planet depending on what we reject to the survival of our scene depending on what we’ll decide to give it to make itself a living…

What’s the meaning of words? And in the mean time, what’s the value of things??? Well be tempted to say ‘nuts’ on our ultra digitalized system allowing free access to almost everything for free, from infos whenever needed, to programs or plugins. Not to say music that too many of us tend to share illegally without wondering about the living conditions of those who’ve produced it!!!
Yeah, no doubt how freedom is definitely cool, but as long as we know what we make of it, meaning by that that every single misbehaviour from each of us added to other’s is nothing but an attempt to it on a more or less short term. So before going any further, let me humbly remind you the definition of the said ‘Respect’ seen basically as an attitude that is shown towards any individuals’ feelings or interest. It is acknowledging another’s feelings in any kind of relationship… It implies to very phrase ‘treat others the way you want to be treated.’ (www.blurtit.com). Respect is taking into consideration the views and desires of others and incorporating it into your decisions. Being truthful to people. (www.wikipedia.com). Getting from this, let me ask you, between you and I, is it how we really react nowadays? Things unfortunately do not tend to show that it’s the case, do they??? MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: BAD CASE OF LOVIN' HOUSE...
The Politics Of Dancing

BAD CASE OF LOVIN’ HOUSE…
Those very last days has been the theatre of an unpreceeding fuss within our scene opposing most notoriously a label manager, a producer and eventually a reviewer on one side to a man – I guess few of us had ever heard before – who reputedly not only happens to be in illegal possession of unreleased material, but also makes much noise about it… This said and despite sadly far from being the first time in the history of music recording, this new case displays on a blatant way the extreme fragility of nowadays hyper sophisticated communication tools - and most likely Internet – and, to a wider extend, the assurance of havin’ our privacy protected the way we all should legitimately expect when using it as furthermore explained by Consortium label head Big Cee on his debut contribution for IDMW.

Of course, this is not the first case of some perverted spirit trying to take advantages of the situation with exemples being countless of those organisations ready to f*** us from a simple click to the hundreds of junk mails they drop on our respective mailboxes on a daily basis. But we, here at IDMW, felt like we couldn’t let those things go furthermore – and most precisely this affair – without a reaction. Firstly because it’s our supposedly responsability to spread the word, be it good as bad. Second because, this kind of procedure is inacceptable putting its victims in a position where they feel like they’ve been raped. Third because our community has to face an already fragilized environment. But maybe more than that is the extreme arrogance shown by the hacker in question while facing his accusations… A man who’s obviously enjoyed occupying the centerstage this week, sometimes writing on his own Spanish language so that very few could understand, but found guilty of uttering insulting when not racist purposes which would led to his bannishment on various forums…

Is it useful to remind his name here? Quite tempted to follow the path initiated on these pages by Big Cee while not mentioning anymore his identity. First coz’ there’s been already enuff noise ‘bout him over the last days so the community should merely know as to how react starting from now. And second coz’ there’s no use givin’ extra exposure to a man who obviously doesn’t deserve this kind of treatment… At least, and on a more positive way, this has obviously shown how it was possible to have our community quickly mobilized when obviously needed. MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: WE CAN DO IT (WAKE UP)
The Politics Of Dancing

WE CAN DO IT (WAKE UP)
17 years after its release, the thema of this Charles Dockins produced song for James Howard remains more than ever up to date in regards to the countless challenges our community has to face. Time to wake up!

Ol’ man, look at my life, I’m not like you were… used to sing Neil Young back in the day, as a blatant reminder to the obvious differences existing from a generation to another and therefore the inevitable conflicts which may result of this. This said,  however old we may be and whatever we may do, let’s not forget how we, as humans, tend to always search for references and, as a direct consequence, alter egos in the position to give each of us the necessary info that will facilitate our maturation. And what a deliverance we all may feel when being given the one we’ve been lookin’ for for ages. But this is most ironically where the major difficulty stands nowadays with the unceasing increase of supposedly resources on display and the unevitable question that comes with as to why get here or there than anywhere else…

C’mon, let’s face it, should Internet has given the opportunity to anyone to launch his own platform, it has in the mean time generated a situation where it sometimes may be hard to make the distinction between the reputedly true information and what remains pure speculation, interpretation, eventually gossip when not total fake. This adding to the long time disorganization as far as our scene is concerned as if that wasn’t already enough.

What is house, what is not, bringing us more widely to the question as to what is information and what is not… Kinda hard answering this without risking to appear as a censor which, as you may guess, is not our point. This said and as a reverse, how, on our legitimate will to be provided with the (right) information, not being tempted to be given the corresponding filters in regards to our respective expectations as opposed to being saturated with an offer which on many cases doesn’t respond to them. And here we go again with the necessary establishment of a labellization which would allow us to exactly find what we’re searching for. And as we may expect, this most likely will happen to those of us who will have made the demonstration of an undeniable credibility along with time going.
Time to wake up, we can do it… As for what concerns here on IDMW, we’ve decided to go one step further while developping projects alongside activists sharing the same state of mind as us… MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: THE RISE & FALL OF... WMC STARDUST
The Politics Of Dancing

The Fontainebleau-Hilton

THE RISE & FALL OF… WMC STARDUST!

Further to the reception of reactions in regards to our last editorial , we found necessary gettin’ back where it left and go further way, most likely with the hope to contribute bringing a better understanding in an environment where an obviously inappropriate use of certain words has ended up diminishing their signification, when not destroying their original meaning…

Quite ironical at the end of the day, not to say iniquitious to see how, on our legitimate will to give further explanations as what to expect in regards to a record, an artist performance - and even more from a community which has faced a blatant lack of exposure for an eternity – we as a whole have come to generate a situation similar to a complete mash up as far as the said general public is concerned…

Can’t get off my head the answers I’ve been given in the streets of Miami while askin’ my way to go to the WMC the very first time I went to Florida… Not only was I said : WMC? Never heard of this! But also: House music? Wot is house music??? Oooops, was to forget… This happened in… 1996!!! But wait a minute, this was just to be the beginning. But most likly what would appear to me as the beginning of the end from a year to another. I remember the first impression which was mine when the WMC got from the famous Fontainebleau-Hilton to another place… And what a location for f*** sake!!! Where all of us were offered to meet in the middle of a concrete playground under the sun with an overdose of kwatts from a sound system left c/o that same handful of wankaz which had already started polluting the Ibiza Summers a couple of years before… This resulting in most of the labels doing their thing on their own way at a whole bunch of different locations the following years.

And that pitiful story to have further developments along with time. I also remember participating to some press panel at the beginning of the 2000’s where we was supposed to talk about the way to break an artist from a (supposedly) journalist perspective. There, I remained listening for almost 20 minutes to what would be said by my US and British collegues (I only wish there would have been someone representing Blues & Soul, Straight No Chaser or German publication Groove !!!). And you-know-what??? I never heard a single mention to… house music… The only exemple given being the one of Moby, speakin’ of which, the least we can say is that he didn’t have not much to do with the reputedly subject of our preoccupations…

I guess I coudn’t help sayin’ to the assistance how far I felt from, not to say how shocked I was by the irresponsible attitude of the majority of my collegues and more particularly the Brits who, instead of talkin’ about music on itself, were using the subject to promote the use of substances from March til’ September while presenting the Ibiza summery extravaganza as the supreme art of life from a year to another!!! And I guess what sadly happened to Ibiza finally occured in Miami with the WMC joinin’ forces with the Ultra Festival and all of a sudden leavin’ those who made it what it initially was to the rank of obscure second roles…

Yes folks, strange although pretty much expectable how history seems to repeat itself from a genre/a period to another, resulting in the same kind of reactions here and there as to how it was before and what it has become. This most likely happening with the corporates putting their fingers on it then diverting the whole from its original spirit with the help of inevitable wanabees in search of fast makin’ stardom with the incomes that come with…

No need tellin’ you I guess how the supposedly house of the aforementioned will NEVER be our HOME! MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: THE POLITICS OF DANCING: STRONGER TOGETHER
The Politics Of Dancing

From the Gil Scott-Heron/Brian Jackson's Winter In America LP

The late Revd Martin Luther King had a dream which is now a part of the History... So had we by the time we gave birth to this space, even though we know how so many things remain to be accomplished before seing ours reachin’ the same status.
We’ve dreamed of makin’ this site as a house, not to say THE house (or differently said, the home) of those who tend to recognize themselves in the countless expression forms inherited from the (Black) groove at the four corners of the planet. Utopia? Time only will tell, as our initiative which we were far from thinking that it would meet such an impact back in the daze...

History (once again) tells us how there are endly no more than two sorts of people. Those who, on one hand, want then find the means. And on the other, those who, not wanting, always find excuses to themsleves. Lack of time, money, talent, earnestness, self confidence,  barreer of the language... The list looks like endless, but the result remains the same, often followed by regrets on a more or less short term. As a matter of fact, how many of those situations we’re up to deplore collectively speaking are the result of individual renunciations, themselves coming from personal questions such as ‘what is it worth?’ even though we’re in the position to decide at the precise time! The right of vote, for instance... But also and as far as we’re more particularily concerned here, the opportunity to communicate in an environment marked by the existence of ever more performant tools...

The cat would eat fish, but would not eat its feet (‘wer will der kann’) also says a famous German expression, in addiction to many others such as ‘give yourself some help and the sky will add to it’...
Once again, let’s stop thinkin’ that things happen the way we see them appearing nowadays. In other words: on a simple... click!!! As already said, they are in most cases the result of hard work being itself the price to pay to establish a name.

Singing stuff like ‘Love each other’ is a thing, but acting so is a far different one, added to the fact that that it looks like the only antidote facing the threat of uniformisation of our environment. Differently said, what we aspire to, what we love, we gotta support it by any means, should we have to make abstraction of the current competition at some time while considering it as a whole, the parts of which to be considered as the components of a community of interests.

C’mon, no need to have a look far away to know what the weapons of massive destruction are... Ignorance, individualism, selfishness to name but a few, being the way we act, consciously or not, for a vaste majority of us, are as many attempts made to our life quality and also to the supposed community we pretend to be a part of. And in regards to the latest, let me humbly remind you the Latin origins of this word: ‘com’ being derived from ‘cum’ which means ‘with’ and subsequently the existence of a relation of both senses between it and each of us individually speaking, meaning that should we be in the position to receive, we gotta be able to give...   Politics Of Dancing: THE POLITICS OF DANCING: BE YOURSELF!
The Politics Of Dancing

Funny how music can be linked to so many things in life, such as feelings like love, hate, desire, passion, disturbance, repulsion, but also women, cooking (many of those who are... in the mix should know what I’m talkin’ about), photography, architecture, not to mention writing amongst stuff comin’ to my mind at this precise moment. And when I’m talkin’ about the latest, I mean the way we come to learn how to write. You first would discover it typographically speakin’, then reproduce it and approriate it for yourself. This is the typical schema of the so called experience – differently said: the background – which you get in almost every aspect of life, but at least do you need someone who’ll get you into it. This might be a teacher, some older peeps, a mentor, a spiritual guide or a prescriptor. Name it whoever you want... In other words what I’d be tempted to call A reference. Someone who you tend to recognize yo’self in without necessarily knowing the exact reasons, I should say, except the fact that he or she’s feeding your appetite if not generating it. Those peeps we refer to have no doubt a special dimension for each of us, because of that specific link we feel like having with them. Luckily enuff, I met them at an early age, so that I guess my internal construction’s been made easier, meanwhile I would be given a method...

On most cases, what we had to do was simply taking notice of the credits on the record sleeves and/or labels at this early time. I mean everyone around looked like havin’ understood the absolute necessity of being identifiable as opposed to nowadays having us mainly surrounded by a magma of lookalike stuff. From the producers to the musicians, from the record companies which truly acted like labels to the club owners/promoters who would do everything to make  their spaces unique. Not to mention the radio stations which would base their reputations and subsequently their audiences on real individualities at the time. Was it because we all sort of were in a discovering process at the period? Could it be that my interrogations of the likes are nuttin’ else but generational at the end of the day? Dis I can’t really say but if there’s anything to be taken for sure, it’s the diversity – so the choice – which, ironically, was much more around than today despite the existence of far more performant reputedly ways of communication.

So many people would get their names in the History while being simply left the opportunity to be themselves as opposed to the numerous pre-marketed concepts currently competing for leadership in the charts nowadays! And the result aptly speaks for itself, as shown by the enormous difference of record sales from a period to another ; the first reason leading us back to the undeniable existence of identity back in the daze. I mean: once again, everything would be made to have us a clear idea of what we were fronted with. Motown was Motown, Salsoul was Salsoul, Prelude was Prelude and this applied to almost everything around, from the Paradise Garage to the Palace in Paris to name the most well known, but also a big majority of those places which remained anonymous on a worldwide scale including in France where many of the 70’s DJ’s were real die hard music lovers as opposed to radio Top 30 followers. And I guess the same ought to be said presswise with reviewers acting like prescriptors as opposed to trend/buzz reporters as well as on radio stations with real broadcasters as opposed to pre-programmed driven jocks. This, no doubt, being (also) for much in the big differences between those distinct periods... MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: CRAZINESS IS JUST AROUND THE BENT...
The Politics Of Dancing

Oooh I know... You might well say: Just back from holidays and already on the forefront!!! Don’t ever believe that I haven’t tried though. No Internet access, no cell, no papers, no tely... My mates had made me the promise to take a break from everything in connection with the current affairs in order to get the best from my break and get back in full effect. Well this happened to be without counting with one of’em, obviously unaware of this previous deal who’s ended up tellin’ me about the statement made by Universal Music to allow the free downloading of its repertoire starting from 01/01/2007 (*). No need to specify that this had the effect of a bomb as far as many of us are concerned...

‘‘In those troubled times, tellin’ the truth becomes a revolutionary act... ’’ (George Orwell)

Is it to say that the thing has to be definitely taken for granted? That we have to see in this the consecration of what we’ve progressively noticed along those last years, I mean the reduction of music to the rank of a simple product like anything else? No doubt that the decision of this US giant, in total opposition to the measures taken over the last months to fight against free downloading, would have been taken for absolute serious reasons. But how not to question ourselves facing the mutliple threats that this is to add on the disorders of an already fragilized economy since the arrival of the digital? Beginning with the transformation of music into a good, the consumption of which, being made possible for free – something which you couldn’t see anywhere else! – would see its usual finances compensated by some advertising process on the dedicated websites. But to which extend and, more than that, on which conditions? The insertion of some advertising jingle on the downloaded file sounding like: This track is being offered to you by the washing powder Y or the toothpaste Z such as – this is the announced reason – what’s currently happening on the radio stations??? And this is far from being everything... How then, following such a state of mind, not to be doubtful in regards to the nature itself of the music to come ; in other words, makin’ them correspond not anymore to the expectations of the crowd the way it was til now but those of the advertisers... The latest being put in the position of doin’ A&Ring as opposed to the record companies!!! Following this idea, how then not to wonder a bit more about the future of this famous alternative embodied by both artists and independant labels which then would be excluded, unless being absorbed either by Universal or by another other major if ever such a process was to become the new rule? Better say on such a case that each creation out of this schema would be definitely condamned and, to a wider extend the diversity so necessary to our daily environment.
It is true, as said by famous French writer La Fontaine at his time that the reason of the strongest is unvariabily – the best, as it’s as evident that what we use to call the progress with aberrations of all kinds...
No doubt how History will appreciate. As to Art, it has probably made itself a reason for already quite a long time... MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: AFTER MIAMI - POLITICS OF DANCING: HOUSE WILL EAT ITSELF
M3

Spare the rod and spoil the child… No doubt how this well known proverb has been for much on the launch of this now regular column named Politics Of Dancing. A column where we think like doin’ nothing but our reputed job as a said observer with the aim to contribute to a brighter future as far as the vibes that unite us here -  are concerned...

Each year at the same period, the Miami festivities are the opportunity to have both an instant cliché and a wider view as far as the house scene is concerned and this year happens to be once again significant in learnings for those of us customised to look much further than the extremity of their noses…
On a strictly consumer’s perspective, no doubt how this year has reached another peak with more and more people added to the Springtime travellers and more and more events to happen on a daily basis for the greatest satisfaction of the people used to take money out of it. In other words, the organisers of the event, but first and foremost the hotels, the restaurants, the cab drivers… and, on a more specific view, the club owners and the promoters who, like in Ibiza nowadays, use to charge the clubbers from 2 to 4 times the price of usual admissions ! As a matter of fact and as pointed out by spiritofhouse.com  head Michael Fossati on his Miami daily reports, a lot of events whose real goal is to promote new productions and talents have had to suffer of the progressive arrival of already installed parties considered as institutions in the cities they’re takin’ place, and one has to wonder the reason of their presence if not to make extra money on those sunny shores. On top of it then, we may also wonder the interest of going to a weekly party almost all year long then make such an investment to attend the same thing while in Miami??? And I’m not even talking about the insane amount increase of those parties with, as a direct consequence, the litteral dilution of the whole into a never ending magma whereas it becomes more and more difficult for the fans, if not the rare observers, to make an objective choice. This, in addiction to the fact that there’s not anymore a central place where people could meet each other and proceed to the exchange of material and ideas like back in the daze during the afternoons at the Fontainebleau by the pool…

Mind you, one might always say that the proper of the times is to change, but also wonder in the mean time if it’s really for the better… Then now that the extravaganza is definitely over, what again is to happen in the remaining 51 other weeks of the year?

Years are going on and on but the learnings out of this remain sadly the same. House music is progressively eating itself with an increasing amount of people centered to their sole selves as opposed to support each other inside the reputed community and, as if it wasn’t enough, less and less looks like being done for the very rare observers entirely devoted to the said cause in regards to their yearly efforts to bring the world the latest developments as far as the music they champion and their actors are concerned. As a matter of fact, the response given by Franke Estevez of Fuzion Records to what needs to evolve is quite significant of the current situation. What needs to evolve is the recognition of Dance Music, he said as a part to our Miami 06 daily features. And what I mean by that is the right source of media, exposing this market. I would like to see us on big magazines, TV, video syndication and live radio broadcast. I just feel without those essentials, it makes the market harder for us to get there. And I guess this man is totally right as I don’t see how it’s possible for any scene to survive when neglecting those resources the way house music mainly does while running like a DJ to DJ thang.
You receive what you give, says another good ol’ proverb of the likes and no wonder why, while having many of its actors neglecting the way they do the rare devoted people givin’ em support all year long, house music gets so little support as opposed to other genres such as rock, hip hop and R&B.

On a more positive side of things though, let’s point out the works of people worth the listen (and the attention) such as Steal Vybe, Wil Milton, Franke Estevez & George Mena, Jihad Muhammad Herb Martin, PirahnaHead and his Detroit collegues. They are amongst those who, while keepin’ the (good) vibe alive, enlight our hearts and souls and contribute to maintain our hope in brighter days to come. MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: MIAMI - POLITICS OF DANCING : IT'S TIME TO PARTY NOW!
M3
By the time you’ll be readin’ this most of the Miami attendees will have reached their destination, firmly decided, whoever they are, – artists, DJ’s, label managers & record companies execs or simply fans – to take the very best out of it, doin’ parties all day long for nearly a week… But what about the rest once the whole thing is over???

Although being the ultimate place to take some good time at this period of the year, let’s not forget Miami’s initial goal supposed to be to the music makers what those bi yearly exhbitions are to the fashion designers ; in other words, THE sparkle for a whole bunch of new creations to be exposed to the world’s attention during the months to come… And this is exactly where it has started to hurt a bit more for quite some time from a year to another, becoming progressively a DJ to DJ thang as opposed to open itself to the said outside world. As a result, nothing really decent in regards to the investment as far as media coverage is concerned, apart from the usual instant reports which is quite ironical from people who, for most of’em, do not have proper pics of’em available on Internet, and a scene about which the least to say is that its image remains quite diluted despite 20 years of activity. C’mon then, would anyone of use imagine seing Karl Lagerfeld and Jean-Paul Gaultier exchanging their latest creations with not even an attention to the journalists and the photographs??? Non sense, bullsh** and whatever of the likes… Then what is to have the latest white label heavily played in Miami when almost no info is given in the meantime to those supposed to display it on a much bigger audience at the end of the day??? I know, that’s the same ol’sh** I’ve already expressed on those pages a couple of years ago, but nothing has really changed since, although things tend to prove how there’s a real need of infos expressed on a daily basis by a whole bunch of peeps around the globe, which, as a kind reminder, are the main purveyors of incomes for the scene…
To the latest on its whole, I’d like to humbly remind this famous sentence taken from the so called Fables of French poet La Fontaine which I’ll try to translate in the most appropriate way : ‘Havin’ sung all summer long, cicada found itself quite unprepared facing the North wind…
Nuff said, it’s time to party now! As for the rest, that same time will tell... MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: POLITICS OF DANCING: IN PURSUIT OF THE 13th NOTE
The Politics Of Dancing

While the whole record industry looks like lookin’ for itself facing multi-facetted changes in addiction to a contemporary production mostly repeating itself to a point where many peeps tend to say that everything’s been written, there’s a thing that many of us seem to have forgotten for ages : the establishment of a real identity…

Although some of you may say that we’re goin’ far once more, haven’t we got any reason to question ouselves as far as our said civilized world behaves? Have a look for instance at the invention of a genius X or Y then what others would eventually make of it. Na folks, it’s not technology that has to be incriminated, but its hijacking in the name of particular interests even though they may constitute a threat as far as the whole humanity is concerned. Such as the current homogenization of our planet and the subsequent destruction of biodiversity. A thing which quite applies to what I’d be tempted to call the audiodiversity as far as the contemporaty production is concerned in the name of the said unique thought. Havin a 360° look at what’s happening nowadays, then what do we see? Basically, a whole bunch of untalented people who, with the help of technology, are considered like today’s heroes, while appropriating for their own selves what’s been doneby others earlier, without makin’it better. Not to mention all those prefabricated puppets around occupying the first seats with the support of a crowd who, because of the current lack of true references, can’t even make anymore the distinction between art and mediocrity, not to say crap. This said, and it’s reknown worldwide: half a loaf is better than none, isn’t it?
And as if it wasn’t enuff, I’m not even talkin’ about my collegues of the paper press – and I don’t give a sh** if ever I lose some x-tra reputed friends – who would do almost everything in order – first - to save their asses as opposed to stay true to what they’re supposed to be. And pardon me when I’m tellin’ them how there’s none so deaf as those who will not hear!!! No surprise then seing the publications they’re workin’ for disappearing one after another as years go.
As a simple comparison, what the cooks have achieved - and I’m not even talking about the big chiefs – is a good exemple of what should be done. I mean, betting on what makes them so special, should they be Italian, Chinese, Indians or French. And I guess it wouldn’t come to your mind askin’ for a suvlaki at a Cuban restaurant nor a pizza at some Japanese one, would it? This is why we’ve never tried to cover everything, should it be the result of the latest trends, as opposed to stick to what took us so long to build : our identity! In the great tradition of those most remembered adventures such as Philadelphia International Records, Salsoul or Motown whose execs have known to stay true – when they’ve not invetend it – to a direction!   Politics Of Dancing: POLITICS OF DANCING : A PRICE 2 PAY 4 EVERYTHING
The Politics Of Dancing
Okay, we’ve been around for almost 2 ½ years now and judging by the growing amount of you visitin’ our site from a month to another, we’re up to think that you sort of tend to find stuff feeding your appetites if not recognize yourselves on those pages, which is cool for us. But are you ready to go one step further?

There’s obviously a meaning for everything and we - you and us - make no exception with that liaison we’ve established together from a side to the other of our respective screens. As far as I’m concerned, I remember back in the days how lucky I’ve been to cross the path of peeps who, by their obvious will to share, have given me what I consider as the most unvaluable good in existence : passion! That same thing which, as opposed to calculation, would lead human beings like you and I to push their inner limits while giving birth to that space where we’re given the opportunity to find our food : a spiritual heritage which is to give birth birth to that space which we have in common called History.
It’s without a doubt because of what we consider as a lack of necessary link ups nowadays, that we’ve decided to give shape to this venture, with the aim to see it perpetuating the souvenir and contribute to maintain the interest alive. Receiving then giving in an unceasing movement from a generation to another. But more basically speaking, from one being to another and havin’ the word spred from those who know to those who don’t or may have forgotten.
This said and although it is seen as a true blessing, we need more than simple visits of yours. I mean, we ourselves too gotta know who you are, where you’re coming from (don’t worry, it’s not a matter of personal datas), what your expectations are and - why not – your experiences, with the aim to create a mutual share and have a better view as far as the needs of our community are concerned. In other words, consider this as your part of the deal, that price we all have to pay to access to a deeper knowledge and grow as individuals.
Thank you for considering this. MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: POLITICS OF DANCING : WE LOVE MUSIC, DO YOU ?
The Politics Of Dancing
The O Jays

I guess that amongst all of you currently readin’ this, no one would say that he (or she) doesn’t love music, but, as usual – and the ladies will understand what I’m sayin’ – stating is a thing, meanwhile making the proof of it is a far different one…

Words often turn into simple blah blah blah and God knows how much we’re surrounded by them in almost every topic in life. You would hear here or there people talkin’ about their fight for a specific cause, when  doin’ the opposite on their day to day life. Politicians tellin’ us how everything’s gotta change and doin’ no better – if not worst – than their predecessors. People criticizing capitalism and wearing its symbols in the same time such footwear and clothes. Ecologists doin’ none other than buying diesel motorized cars or leavin’ the dogs makin’ a pee on the neighbour’s car… And the list goes on & on !!! Not to mention those clubbers, who not content havin’ their names on the guest list drink the bottle that they brought with incognito in the loo. And those numerous pretending to be devotees, if not militants who, in the meantime download free files and eventually make trade out of’em… And this is how we are today, seing our society in loss of diversity, under the domination of more & more powerful multinational trusts.

Many are those you may hear here or there sayin’ how music has become too expensive on their will to justify free downloading, forgetting thereabouts even that everything has an expense which has no other choice than being financed unless seing the whole system goin’ to its death. Although we may understand how one or two valuable cuts per album are not necessary enough to justify its purchase, let’s not forget in the same time that downloading has also a certain cost, from the acquisition of a computer to the monthly access fees and I’m not even talking about the installation of more & more performant programs. True, you might then also hearing people tellin’ you that it’s possible to get those for free ; but let’s not forget neither how those cracked programs are often synonymous with the intrusion of spywares, when not viruses eventually needing the assistance of specialists whose fees may end up being much higher than a 20 something good ol’ vinyls with their sleeves & the credits!!!
But maybe is it to believe that those who pretend lovin’ music do it accordingly to what’s on display today: I mean products put into circulation by white collars being asked to have nothing else but a knowledge of the big distribution trade techniques. And the cycle to be then ended with a subsequent music made to respond to formats which have been dictated by the latest. As for the others – those who refuse that system – they’re left with no other choice than counting on their own finances (in other words, not that much in ciomparizon) and try to do it !
It’s more than ever those peeps that we’ve got to support while purchasing their products and paying our due when they show their faces here or there. There’s no other choice unless sein’ them disappearing and kill the diversity which – should all we remember – remains one of the essential factors of the world’s wealth such as we basically found it. The only question being: shall we know how and do we solely want to keep it alive? MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: POLITICS OF DANCING : THE END OF A CYCLE ?
The Politics Of Dancing
Goods which have ended up being dematerialized for a handful of peanuts – if not for nothing – given to their creators, being talentuous or not. A formatting process which doesn’t leave anymore space to diversity. A creation which, whatever its vocation is (commercial or said underground), seems like making rounds & rounds… All on all, a situation which is in no way new, ultimate rebound of the history, the proper of which – should we like to remember – is to be made of either illuminating and obscure periods…

While not only being given the capacity to acquire almost everything from a simple click, but also thinking of what we’ll be able to afford the next day right after the operation is done, many are those of us who, in the mean time, have forgotten this essential notion consisting of the time needed to elaborate the object of our desires. As if, here as well, a simple click was needed to give it life. A feeling which, however tending to confirm itself judging by the way the consumption society gets the food to regenerate iteself while commercializing stuff with a more and more limited duration of life, shows how much it has reached its limits as far as artistic creation is concerned, leading to today’s situation. In other words, an overdose of infos and in the meantime sollicitations which are far from being all worth a listen. Although our elders might say how it was about the same in the 60’s/70’s period with an already plethoric production at the time, let’s not forget how volume has never been synonymous with quality, especially knowing that today’s cadets are less and less given time to show their aptitudes. And how those very few at the commands who could be tempted or would like encouraging to do  so ain’t necessarily got the power anymore and, even more, the resources…

Famous book Toujours plus (understand Always More) by French editorialist Alain De Closets shows here as well how relevant it is, as too many things have ended up killing THE thing, either by blacking it out if not when having banalised it. In addiction to this, let’s not forget the immediate estimation process and, as a direct consequence, the dirty trick being played consisting of not allowing an ever growing amount of us to make the distinction between the good and the crap, due to the current lack of necessary references when not of a values scales. Is it to say that there’s nothing good at the moment ? This is not the point, as it ain’t neither talking about that period comprised between 1983/4 and 1986/7, speaking of which the least we can say is that it’s far from having been the most glorious as far as quality material is concerned. This said, maybe shouldn’t we forget that a given period can be, for many reasons, more or less prolific and have in mind the fact that the one we’re currenly living may mark the end of a cycle.   Politics Of Dancing: POLITICS OF DANCING : WE'VE GOT THE POWER
The Politics Of Dancing
Stop The Violence Movement (feat. KRS-ONE, Public Enemy, Heavy D, MC Lyte, D-Nice, Kool Moe Dee, Doug E Fresh)It’s time to stand together in a unity cause. If not, then yo, we’re soon to be self-destroyed, unemployed, the rap race will be lost without a trace, or a clue, but what to do, is stop the violence and kick the science down the road that we call eternity, where knowledge is formed, and you’ll learn to be self-sufficient, independant to teach to each is what rap intended but society wants to invade. So do not walk this path they led. It’s self-destruction, ya headed for self-destruction. Self-destruction, ya headed for self-destruction…

I know how this may no sound the funniest thing to read to many of you here but I can’t help myself thinking how doubtful I am as far as tomorrow is concerned judging by the uniformization of our environment. Is there anything we can really do about it ? Nothing more here but a matter of individual acceptance as usual as it’s each of us’s prerogative to say yes or no and subsequently react as notoriously shown by those excerpts of a ‘Self Destruction’, a song written by a collective of rappers united around KRS-One and Hank Shocklee under The Stop The Violence Movement guise at the end of the 80’s. I know how some of you may say that those were just words as violence is still around the corner. But what about those people who made themselves a name in History while refusing what to many of their contemporaries stood as fatality at the time? Politicians, authors, scientists, artists… Not to mention those many anonymous people who’ve eventually left their lives on a battle field here or there in the name of an idea if not an ideal !!!
Quite interesting to have a look back at those lyrics written some 17 years ago and see how they may tragically apply to so many aspects on today’s reality. As if what we tended to consider as progress was nothing but a global regression at the end of the day. And the reasons to such a situation are numerous, like ignorance, misunderstanding when not indifference, with the blessing of the Power or the System (call it whatever you want), the glorification of individualism and the defense of hobbies or nations interests as opposed to humanity’s ones as a way of living.
This said, what’s be done along the last months to prevent US Pdt George W. Bush from allowing companies to launch new oil-wells in Alaska should be taken as a real sign of encouragement although a whole bunch of things remain to be done here or there such as convincing a Ukranian state company to give up building a channel in the Donau delta in regards to a plan which is reputed to be a real menace to the already fragile ecosystem of this site.

In the same state of mind, can’t help myself being more than sceptical when having a listen to what is currently said about the downloading. On one hand, you’ll have those people against the legalization of the free downloading – record companies execs for instance – claiming that they work for the interests of the artists. And on the other, you’ll have the others saying that the free downloading is the ultimate way to promote a song. As far as I’m humbly concerned, I would tend to think that both their positions are based on wrong arguments. Regarding the first of’em, because they’re justifying their existence out of said artists works and don’t give a single sh** of the individuals as long as they are potential sources of (huge) profits. As for the others, because they tend to think that the peer to peer platforms are the works of music lovers as opposed to nuttin’ but crackers living their obsession to push forward the limits of inviolation.
History once again prooves to be full of reluctant exemples on both sides along the years, should it be the commercialisation of the tape recorder which would happen to be the first tool allowing massive reproduction some 40 years ago, as the regular sacking of artists following the establishment of artificially decided new trends for most of them.
As for what concerns us here on IDMW.Com, you can rest assured of seing us pursuing our fight for the maintainence of diversity everywhere we feel this has to, by any (legal) means necessary.
Is there here as well any need for legislation, as demonstrated by this purposal from French MP’s to include a quota destined to the artists on the fees that that are paid to the access providers in exchange for the legalization of the free downloading ? Not too sure seing everyone being happy about this as it’s already the case regarding the current copyrights payment system courtesy of the existing dedicated companies from a country to another. The right solution for the internet community looks more to me like working on the establishment of a modus vivendi. Starting with the nature of the files that are currently freely exchanged which should me made unlistenable in proprer conditions elsewhere than on PC. This is as a matter of fact what we’ve always done here on IDMW.Com, due to the fact that what we consider as our freedom to inform has always found its limits where the artists' freedom to get the fruit of their work starts. The Politics Of Dancing
AIN’T NO STOPPIN’ US NOW… WE’RE ON THE MOVE !

McFadden And WhiteheadLife is made of those inevitable moments where we happen to wonder at some point about the sense of our actions, not to say our existences, havin’ each of us in the obligation to take sometimes heavy significant resolutions, like be or not to be and (subsequently) how doin’ so and assume it… We at IDMW.Com made no exception coming to the point where decisions had to be taken regarding the evolution of our entreprise. In other words, put it simply to an end or find some solutions in order to get the necessary ressources for its development. And, as you may guess while reading these lines, we’ve firmly decided to go for the second option, with deep thanks to those numerous of you who’ve supported us since day 1…

Quite hard to say indeed what will tomorrow bring. This said, if one thang is for sure, it’s the absolute obligation for the music we love and its actors to have the necessary exposure to be maintained sufficiently alive in order to face the threat of uniformization which has been around us for quite some time and this is exactly where we’ve been at while giving birth to this space a bit more than 2 years ago, with the aim of spreading the most acurate word, courtesy of contributors comin’ from all around the world. In addiction, we’d like to humbly remind you how this site has been created with the will to be used as a space of free expression ; this meaning the opportunity which is left to you to bring you own contribution the way you feel, incl. the one to express some contradictory point of view. In the same time, we’re firmly decided to keep on doin’ our job as observers and eventually maintain our prerogative as far as criticism is concerned, as opposed to many of those around us who’ve decided to take anything for granted for some circumstancial reasons and what such a situation suggests regarding our aural environment and far beyond. And this – believe it or not - without a single will to generate any personal affair in particular, but contribute to its improvement.
Some tuff remarks which we’ve encountered here or there added to a particular environment where real visibility is lacking eventually made us thinking about ceasing our activities at some time but, once again, passion ended up being stronger than anything else as, no doubt, we better go for excitement should it be with a part of doubt than for insurance without a single push of adrenalin. So better get yourselves ready to see us even more reactive than we’ve ever been so far in the weeks to come.
Ain’t no stoppin’ us now… we’re on the groove !

Politics Of Dancing: IS HOUSE (MUSIC) DEAD ?
The Politics Of Dancing
What a question indeed, isn’t it ? Although we’ve sort of seen it recently mentioned on our forum. This said, issues are numerous to make us wonder about its (possible ?) future ! As it’s one of the fundamental aspects of life to see things coming to an end while others are coming to light. Unless it should simply be redefined for a better acceptance of a growing amount of peeps who don’t understand anymore what it really stands for…

Look what they done to (our) house ! When I’m saying ‘they’, I’m talking about of those who’ve taken advantage of it although given a pale interpretation of the whole, with the help of reviewers who’ve ended up dismantling it into countless micro niches. And when I’m saying ‘(our) house’, I mean the one which many of us have adopted back in the days following the footsteps of the defunct disco, should it come from NYC, Jersey, Chicago and even Detroit ! And the things are about the same regarding the so called garage music, the signification of which depending wether you’re based in America or England, following the successive arrivals of the said speed garage which would become the UK garage and eventually give birth to 2step. C’mon, let’s have a quick look, will you ? What do Ron Trent, Bob Sinclar, Tiefschwartz, Herbert and Jay-J in common ? Not that much I would say, if not nothing, although they’re all said to be doing house music… I understand while going to some Italian restaurant that I may be served tortellini, spaghetti, tagliatelle, lasagna but I know that I’m gonna eat pastas, should they be Bolognese, Napolitana or whateva. Is this the same regarding the aforementioned as far as house music is concerned ? Rather leaving this to you while you may guess that I therefore have my own opinion ! And that’s finally about the same when talking about… techno. Is this solely a genre as many people have stated along the years or more of a state of mind judging by what’s happening in Detroit ? Do the music hailing from this place have anything in common with the so called German techno for instance ??? Not so much neither at the end of the day, has it ? And would you consider some anonymous wine coming from California the same way as a Bordeaux Grand Cru Millésime ? Maybe so when used to drink nothing but Coke ! This meaning in such case that you wouldn’t know anything about wine ! Another matter of awareness unfortunately due to a global lack of references but also to the fact that many deciders have definitely turned their backs to it while searching for some reputed e-z-ness. What’s finally happening when taking all the basic substances making a thing what it is ? You kill it and the cruellest thing is that house may have been killed by the ones who’ve reputedly been a part of the game more than the said outsiders if not opponents… Quite ironical, isn’t it ?
Is house dead ? I leave this to your own device, although – on a more positive side of the things – I would say that the ones doing good music will certainly keep on doing so whatever it is and chances are great to see them keepin’ on having supporters. You can count on us to be amongst the first of’em. MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINES
The Politics Of Dancing
Should a revolution happen and it’s every time the same ol’ song as to make the balance between what it brings and what it destroys. Humans have never ceased elaborating new tools to make life supposedly easier. The only questions being : is there a limit and if so, haven’t we already gone too far or at least too quickly ???

Don’t get me wrong peeps as the point of this issue is, once again, not to show any form of nostalgia. This said, signs are quite numerous today of a growing disconnection between the progresses of technology and what humanity is ready to accept on its whole as far as the consequences of this evolution suggest in terms of working conditions and economy for many people. The aim of this issue isn’t neither to complain about the current situation, but more to have a reflection for a better understanding of the whole and – if possible – adapt new attitudes.
Of course, and how could we blame this on our own position, technology has brought many beautiful things which we find unnecessary to enumerate. But how could we remain unconcerned by the so many losses of jobs that its unceasing evolution has caused in the mean time ?
Quite ironical indeed to see that technolgy which would help people incl. non musicians to produce music and a whole industry to publish it is at the same time the biggest threat as far as their incomes are concerned while allowing anyone to reproduce it illegally. Quite ironical as well to see the reactions of the DJ’s – those affilliated to the Disco Mix Club – reported to be said by the heads of their local branches that they wouldn’t pay what asked by the DMC HQ (£ 100 a year) for being delivered mp3 promos, saying that they were able to get them for free here or there. And this is one amongst the many illustrations of a deregulated economy, having entrepreneurs delocating their companies in order to get cheaper costs, meanwhile leaving their former employees in the Western countries – who happen to be their main customers – with no job !
Is this the way people (you, me) figured life would be ? I sincerely doubt it, although each of us by acquiring an ever more sophisticated technology tend to not only strengthen the domination of its providers, but also kill whole other sectors, when not making ourselves anymore ready to buy their productions.
I’d like to humbly remind you the basic principle of economy based upon the existence of products which have a cost. And although some of you might figure that they can get music for free, let’s not forget that you have to pay for the tool which will allow you to do so. One question though : if people don’t get paid for the music they produce, for the articles they write, who da hell’s gonna replace them ? MFSB

Politics Of Dancing: YOU NEVER LIVE TWICE
The Politics Of Dancing

Whatever might be said, and even though disagreeing with a majority of people seing in certain folks their heroes of the day, history, despite repeating itself under the form of regular cycles, ain’t never be the same. And whenever one tends to come back to ancient times as it’s often the case nowadays, this trully shows a lack of inspiration and – once again – an obvious problem as far as the sense of values is concerned…

Almost not a single day without a sound coming to our ears to bring us back to a precise moment of our existence. Although I fairly well understand the aim of the producers to come up with something the crowd may feel connected to, I simply can’t help saying NO to all this stuff currently around made by people trying to provide us with a story far better narrated something like 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 years ago, seing the way the aformentioned are treated on top of it (like virtual kings !), despite cut’n’pasting works which aren’t theirs ! As if a scribe X or Y was to receive an Award for rewriting on his own way books of authors such as Shakespeare, Molière or Dante. Or as if an anonymous copier was to be offered an exhibition at some place like Le Louvre for revamping paints of people like  Van Gogh, Da Vinci or Salvador Dali !!! Could you believe this ? Let me humbly have doubts about it ! And if I’m sufficiently open minded to understand how art can be reappropriated, I’m expecting it to be so by shining spirits such as Warhol – and not by those too numerous w**kerz who without their machines or the help of some star from the past trying to resurface, would be either hairdressers, employed by some brewers or would work in the building industry. Alright then, you might tell me how such a work (I mean the latest) could be a good experience as far as house (music) is concerned. This said, the market keeps on being what it is following the footsteps of the Spaghetti House and the most memorable dispute which has occured between Italian outfit BlackBox and US diva Loletta Holloway (remember ‘Ride On Time’) the impersonations of Milli Vanilli and all this rubbish known as eurodance which made many French clubs the way they are today. Not to mention all those bootlegs, more or less licit reedits, remixes and cover versions currently around.
Although we’ve completely admitted the process of tracing as far as the origin of the food is concerned in the EEC after the co called mad cow affair, although the wine industry has protected itself from many frauds with the A.O.C. system, and despite having the intellectual property more and more under control having in mind the creation of quality labels for the consummers, the multi media production – should it be the cinema as well as the music – is left under the control of more or less good soup makers  left with no one saying anything about it. And even more then with the complicity of a whole organized system living on the sole basis of immediate returns on investements.
Thjis said, and although it always take a certain time to the crowd to react, we’d better stop considering it as sheeps. Do we really offense Bob Sinclar wondering which of Cerrone’s original works and the revamps which have recently been made are the best ? And what about Richie Rich’s classic ‘Salsa House’ or Robin S’s’Show Me Love’ and their current reworks or extrapolations by Soul Purpose on Defected and Sillicone Soul on Soma ???
History, as usual, will judge within a 10 years period time, even though we may guess a big majority of you coming to this site have already your own opinion about it. But if history tends to repeat itself, let’s never forget that it can’t be lived twice, simply because nothing stays the same…

Criticizing is always kinda e-z, although being supposedly expected from a said medium, meanwhile offering solutions is by far a much harder thing. The Politics Of Dancing

But what about those who’ve invested on producing music, booking DJ’s or simply provided you with the infos ? A tough question indeed leading us to the survival of a whole system on its own…
