Interviews: DANNY TENAGLIA : THE DANCE OF LIFE
Vintage Interviews
More than 30 years of full effect have seen Danny Tenaglia amongst those very rare US DJ’s having a name instantly speaking for itself. Sort of too much at some times according to the man himself who doesn’t hesitate to point out the excesses of a star system creating reputations mainly based on perceptions as opposed to real truth… DT doesn’t believe the hype, nor do we !

Interviews: TEDDY RILEY : WHEN THE SWING HITS THE FUNK
Vintage Interviews
At the age of 25, he was one of the most sought after producers in America. James Ingram, The Winans, Bobby Brown, Today, Boy George, Wrecks’N’Effect, Fine Young Cannibals, New Kids On The Block and even Jacko… The box office jet set was litteraly running after his talent at the time, the way those billionaires come to Sothesby’s in London to pick up some famous painter’s work.
Name : RILEY
First name : EDWARD THEODORE aka TEDDY
Date of Birth : 10/08/1967
Place Of Birth : Harlem, NY

Interviews: ROMANTHONY : (C’MON BABE), LET THE GOOD HOUSE… ROLL !
Vintage Interviews
In this period of doubt leaving us in the ability to think about everything and its contrary as far as the future of house music is concerned, not to mention a lack of references which has never been so obvious, we’re getting back to a fella who, despite having not that much shown his face here or there, will stay forever as someone who’s left his imprint during a whole period. A man who, instead of answering the mermaids’call and get the usual confort that such a situation is supposed to suggest, has prefered taking some distance and remaining true to who he is. In other words, the proper of an artist who’s got everything of a prince in our memories as in our hearts…

Interviews: GIORGIO MORODER : FROM (T)HERE TO ETERNITY…
Vintage Interviews
We felt like he could have been a part of this 70’s electro kraut wave alongside people such as Kraftwerk, Can or Supermax. We at some time thought he was hailing from Munich. We even believed that he had German roots with such a name. Eurgh ! Not at all folks. The only thing which is sure is his notable contribution to the disco sound. But it’s far from being everything. Follow the guide… Words : MFSB

Interviews: THE TIME : THE MAGNIFICIENT SEVEN
Vintage Interviews

IDMW.com goes further on its going back to the roots series with a band (Prince's one at some… time) that remains to date as one of the biggest talent concentration ever. The artist newly reknown as Prince had made a recent come back and two members of the group - Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis – remain most definitely in the R&B production top file after more than two decades of continous success. Time definitely speaks for itself…

Interviews: LIL LOUIS: TO BE OR NOT TO BE…
Vintage Interviews

History definitely speaks for itself. In a world were so many wannabes sell their souls to make nothing but money, Louis Sims, better known under his Lil' Louis moniker, would rather buzz off than putting something that shoudn't be outstanding for his own first. As a result, none of his works suffered the comparizon with anyone else's so far and this is why, although we haven't heard of him for quite a while, his image remains the one of one of the biggest talents that house music has provided with throughout the years…

Interviews: MARSHALL JEFFERSON : OPEN YOUR EYES
Vintage Interviews

Funny how many of the best things to occure happen by surprise. Speaking about Marshall Jefferson, curiosity would kill the cat as he bought his first sequencer before soon to become one of the most charismatic producer house music would have providing people like Kym Mazelle, CeCe Rogers and Ten City with never equaled quality material to date. Enuff reasons to have him on this best remembered summer series…

Interviews: CECE ROGERS : ALL JOIN HANDS
Vintage Interviews

Frankly speaking, one could easily stay hours and hours having a chat with CCR. Not only because he has got one of the most beautiful voices on the house scene, but also because he's a brilliant author delivering parts of a History which is ours, whatever our differences may be. It's been said about James Brown that he is a soul man. He's definitely not the only one…

Interviews: TONY HUMPHRIES: MIX THE VIBES
Vintage Interviews

If the proper of the time is to go on and on, the one of the souvenirs is to survive. At least, the outstanding ones that remain kept alive throughout the years. More than a decade has already gone since the shutting of the Zanzibar. A place that would be the biggest club ever in New Jersey, following the footsteps of the Loft and the Paradise Garage in their contribution to deliver some of the key pages in the history of nightclubbing. The first aforementioned had David Mancuso and the second, Larry Levan. The third's man would be Tony Humphries

  Interviews: INCOGNITO : ALWAYS THERE
Vintage Interviews

England has regularly managed to drop names that would become big in the history of contemporary music, beginning with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. They would have Loose Ends on the R&B field, then Soul II Soul and Lisa Stansfield a bit later on, not to mention Incognito on the jazz then the acid jazz tip. Their recipee : some solid references of the past blended with of drop of modernity as illustrated by their new album aptly called 'No Time Like The Future'. By the way, doesn't this remind you anything ? Nuyrocian Soul, you're damned right ! Tomorrow never dies…

  Interviews: FELA : THE SO(U)RCERER
Vintage Interviews

In Africa, where culture is aurally trnasmissitted, the passing away of a griot is said to be the bye-word for the disappearance of a library. We at IDMW.com thought it was our duty – seven years after his death on Aug, 02 1997 - to provide you with this tribute to one of the most charismatic musicians that the word has ever known, with the help of one of his trulliest respectful descendants. Ladies and gentlemen : Fela Anikulapo Kuti, by Joe Claussell

  Interviews: LARRY HEARD : GOLDFINGER
Vintage Interviews

In the beginning, there was jack, and jack had a groove. And from this groove came the groove of all grooves. And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, jack boldy declared : 'let there be house !' And house music was born. 'I am, you see, I am The creator, and this is my house ! And, in my house there is only house music. But, I am not so selfish because once you enter my house it then becomes our house and our house music…'

Can You feel it ? Course we do, as all the ones who keep on entering Larry Heard's house some 17 years after the release of this anthemic tune that would give birth to (deep) house music.

So many things to tell about A man who I've known for over fifteen years although we've never had the chance to meet. Things related to London's BlackMarket record store and label, Rene Galston (Larry's manager) who I would come to know when I was leaving in London. Things related to the defunct Parisian BPM record stores owner, Sal Russo who would have some tears in the eyes, while evoking Larry and co's works. Not to mention that night Larry would play in some Detroit spot during the DEMF having me missing him while sleeping in a car next door…

Interviews: JOSE PADILLA : IBIZA SUNSETS
Vintage Interviews

Every year a the same period we would see the release of a whole bunch of compilations claming to embody the (true) spirit of Ibiza. This said, if anyone worldwide knows about the question, it's most definitely José Padilla. A man that arrived on the White Island some 30 years ago, celebrating the beauty of the spot the best way one ever could aurally speaking. Giving birth to the Cafe del Mar series back in 1995, he soon would become the Ambassador of contemplative chill-out vibes, way before the arrival of the so called lounge music and its cohort of pale imitators…

Interviews: SOUL II SOUL: KEEP ON MOVIN'…
Vintage Interviews

In today's plethora of multimedia infos, not so many thangz remind instantly identifiable. What the late Barry White had been championing on his own throughout his whole life was then to take shape in UK by the end of the 80's. A typical sound that would become a style and, even more, a spirit, opening the path to a brand new generation in the history of soul music with people like Diana Brown & Barrie K Sharpe, Omar, Dodge & IG, Young Disciples, Mica Parris, D-Influence, Brand New Heavies and the likes. The so called Brit soul as defined by Soul II Soul

Interviews: BARRY WHITE : GONE ON THE 4TH OF JULY…
Vintage Interviews

As the United States Of America were to celebrate their Independance Day a year ago, American dream was going to a dramatic end for one of its children, beaten by the sickness in some California Hospital. A singer and also A producer whose style had sometimes been approached without finding its equivalent (cf. Johnny Bristol and, more recently, Cunnie Williams). A character whose glamourous side would reach its peak during the disco era. But if Barry White reached the status that was his, building his reputation from a repertoire that would always have something to do with that thing called love, it ended up being a sort of antidote to protect him from going back to gangsterism where he'd been at his early years…
