BLAZE
My Beat – S.U.M.O. Rebounces
Heya Hifi
|
Beware of the
Blazes, as one might hide another one. This being obviously the case from
last fortnight having them doing some fine revamps of 280 West’s’’Fly’’
to this week seing some of their work redone by Combo & Alf Tumble aka
S.U.M.O. with the first release of their newly launched Heya Hifi label. And
what we have here is nothing but the already classic ‘’My Beat’’ originally
released on Slip’N’Slide (also remembered for a brilliant relifting by Swag).
What our Sweden’s friends have done here is add their much African/West Indies
influenced touch to the whole, giving it a new life on a vein quite reminiscent
of last year’s ’’Si Weka ‘’ by One51 on Soulfuric. As Barry White
said, no matter which interpretation of the music you have as long as it fits to
its original skeleton. And it’s bloody damned the case here. MFSB
