STEPPAH HUNTAH featuring BLUE SMITH
So Alive
Soultronik
|
Although having
our attention one more time fully caught up by what's currently going on
housewise in Miami, we make a short day trip to Strasbourg (East of France)
where you may find a whole bunch of activists shuffling fresh air on the nu
groove spectrum by the likes of Nutropic, Soultronik record shop/label
honcho Talstef or Drumbass.net website to name but a few. Not to mention
Steppah Huntah who, after a one of appearance on Compost Records, drops
his third release to date. And what a piece of wax blending a genuine soulful
spirit on sparse beats. Reminding of Amp Fiddler at some point if not
Roy Ayers, the title track appears as a pure testimony of nu jazz/funk era
over a broken beat approach with lush keys, before receiving a silky house
treatment courtesy of Teddy G. Also on board is the infectious "Elegancia"
with its sharp keys and chord arragements alla Incognito. Then the
Steven J Tronikjazz mix the syncopated "Should I" putting the organ
of vocalist Bluesmith at the center stage in the middle of some sparse
back ups. All on all, nothing but good music. MFSB
