Picks Of The Week
DOCTOR M "Park Jam" - Dancers Delight Series (Needs)
Behind Doctor M is Needs ' very own Marek Bartkuhn who presents this fantastic production that cleverly injects parts of the Montana Sextet classic "Who Needs Enemies" to create a boogie-esque disco-house extravaganza that features a funky groove, crunchy beats, bubbling bassline, spheric keys and hot guitar licks. The result is an absolutely outstanding track with reminisces to the good old days of disco that will make your feet move.
ANANE "Amazing Love" (Vega Records 12")
Louie Vega produced and mixed this Blaze co-written track, that is on laidback vibe featuring copious jazz solos from the musicicans that include Josh Milan, Joe Claussell and Selan amongst others. Latin percussion, warm chords and smooth beats take you on a nearly twelve minute journey. The instrumental is on a dreamy latin jazz house tip, with the dub intensifying the latin flavor.
AMEL LARRIEUX "For Real" (white)
Beautiful mixes of Amel Larrieux 's "For Real" courtesy of Jason B can be found on this booty, giving the song a deep feeling through the mellow bumpin' groove and melodic keys used. Four variations can be found, all equally good and paying justice to the soulful vibe of the original.
83 WEST presents KENNY BOBIEN "When" (Home)
The follow up to the successful "A New Day" by Stephanie Cooke is another great 83 West production featuring the legendary Kenny Bobien on vocals over a smoothly stompin' groove added with a deep bubbling bassline and warm keys. Karizma provides a tougher dub with a funky edge and catchy keys, while Jon Cutler turns out a driving garage interpretation with melodic keys.
MARLON D "Taste" (NY Soul Records/CD Promo)
NY Soul has established itself as a label focussing on soulful house music, with only a handful of releases so far, but these have given them lots of recognition all over the world. With "Taste" by New York producer and DJ Marlon D, they continue this tradition with a deep production featuring a strong vocal over a bubbling groove that comes complete with a rumbling bassline, melodic keys and an oustanding organ ride on the 'UC Deep Smooth Mix', with the 'UC Tough Mix' spicing the groove up with crisp beats, giving the track a more powerful and sharp edge. Also included is the 'UC Organ Dub' taking that organ ride to the limit.
SE:SA featuring ERIN "In My Life" (Do The Hip Records/CD Promo)
Se:Saaka Serhat Sakin is one half of Syke'N'Sugarstarr."In My Life" is the long awaited follow up to "All Together" and features an amazing vocal performed by Erin (tragically, she passed away recently). The original vocal and dub mixes feature stompin' beats and both warm and spacey keys together with a soulful vocal, creating an uplifting feeling. The Syke'N'Sugarstarr mix is a pumpier affair with funky bassline and rock guitar, destined for the bigger rooms.
SHIK STYLKÖ & D'STEPHANIE featuring MELISSA "We Won't Fall" (Real Basic/CD Promo)
Real Basic artists Shik Stylkö and D'Stephanie team up on this song featuring the sexy and soulful voice of Melissa. D'Stephanie's mix comes with a funky edge thanks to the bassline and guitar, added with thumpin' beats and jazzy keys. In contrast, Shik Stylkö delivers a powered up dub version with a driving groove, wicked keys and cool effects that is perfect for peaktime play. Swiss production team MoD use a fierce groove with smoothly stomping beats, lovely guitar and both jazzy and melodic keys to create a more laidback affair.
DJ KAWASAKI featuring KARIN "Blazin'" (NiteGrooves)
King Street continue their tradition of releasing soulful house music coming out of Japan. "Blazin'" by DJ Kawasaki is their latest discovery, a jazzy and deep production featuring a lively piano line, stellar organ riff and cool guitar together with the wonderful vocals by Karin. The instrumental strips the vocal to let the music do the talking, while the dub edit features an extra organ ride.
DJ Circle "This Love Is Real" (RealBasic/CD Promo)
DJ Circle hails out of Munich/Germany and is just 19 years old. With "This Love Is Real", he drops a groovy production with a catchy vocal hook, smooth beats, funky bassline and warm keys. There is a tougher dub version with sharp beats and spaced-out keys. Hardsoul provide the remix, featuring a bouncey groove and phat bassline together with lots of filtering effects and catchy keys, with the result being perfect for peak time play.
TYKEN featuring DARRYL D'BONNEAU "Don't Ever Stop Dancing" (Trunkfunk/CD Promo)
Trunkfunk Records is a brand new label out of Sweden presenting their first release courtesy of Tyken aka Fredrik Nyberg and Carl Ryden. TIGER STRIPES "The Vulture" - Main Mix (ROCit 10"/test pressing)
Sweden's Mikael Nordgren is on a move at the moment with yet another phat production that shoul be available soon including remixes by Ray Roc and Kevin Graves. One to set the dancefloor on fire.
