Review: JOHN LEGEND "Ordinary People" - Original Drum Remix (CD-R)
Exclusive
Review: MARIO "Let Me Love You" - Original Drum Remix (CD-R)
Original Drum
Productions have been handing out a
showreel featuring snippets of their recent work at this years "Winter Music
Conference", including these two songs. "Ordinary People" by John Legend
has been remixed many times already by the likes of Karizma, Jihad
Muhammad and 83 West, but this reworking is my favorite so far. It is
based on smoothly stompin’ groove and features melodic keys that harmonise
perfectly with the reminiscent piano of the R&B original. Mario's current
smash "Let Me Love" gets a new interpretation in two different flavors. The 'Bes
Scroll' mixes use deeply stompin' beats together with a wicked set of keys and
xylophone solo to create an irresistible vibe, while the 'Shetshet File' mixes
feature a jazzy piano alongside melodic chords over a fierce groove, creating an
intense feeling.
RAW ARTISTIC
SOUL "What About Love EP" (GoGo Music/CD Promo)
Raw Artistic
Soul follow up the release of their
What About Love LP with another hot EP including the album title track
and "Felipes Dubstyle". "What About Love" features Mirta Junco Wambrug on
vocals and is included here in an infectious, funktified extended version.
S.U.M.O. are responsible for the remixes, creating an irresistible groove
featuring Afro-styled beats and drums, guitar and slammin' keys on their
rebounce, while the dub gets electronic with tough keys. "Felipes Dubstyle", a
driving track featuring rhodes and brass stabs over kicking beats, is included
here in an extended version.
JEREMIAS
SANTIAGO "The Feelin' EP" (Jellybean Soul/promo)
After the
success with his previous release "Keyzzz" on the same label, Jeremias
Santiago returns with "The Feelin' EP", a hot three track. "Carribean Love
Song" is a smooth and laidback groover with a jazzy piano line and sweet steel
drums, while "DHP (Let's Talk)" is based on a deeply stompin' groove and
features spacey keys on top. "Rising sun" starts off with laminar keys and sweet
percussion before the mellow bumpin' beats and a jazzy piano kick in and create
an afterhours feeling.
ANTHONY
NICHOLSON featuring Mr. ALI "Come Into My Life" (Circular Motion)
Anthony
Nicholson continues the exploration
of deep spiritual grooves that stays in the tradition of the classic USG
Productions. On "Come Into My Life" he teams up with Mr. Ali (Jere
McAllister & Vic Lavender) and singer Carla Prather. The result is a
percussively bumpin groove, topped with soulful vocals and warm melodic keys,
taking you on a musical journey.
LEFUNKEN featuring MINA "Stand Up" (Bingo Soul)
Duron Tarik
& Tyrone Payton together with Mina once more form a successful
team on their latest "Stand Up", a wonderful garage production based on a fierce
groove, added with an emotional vocal performance by Mina, warm melodic
keys and a lovely acoustic guitar.
JILL SCOTT "Not Like Crazy" - Quentin Harris Remix (Restricted Access)
After Jill
Scott's "Golden" got remixed so many times you cannot even count all these
revamps, the same might happen to "Not Like Crazy" as we've already have
Charles Spencer and Kenny Dope remixes, and now Quentin Harris
is serving his take that takes the song to the underground with a strong
bassline that builds and builds, added with lush strings, echod keys and a
lovely acoustic guitar.
KARIZMA "In
Tha D.E.E.P" (Ricanstruction)
Karizma
getting raw here, with the 'Kohesive Trybed Mix' being on a rugged tribal vibe
with sharp beats creating a broken beat styled groove, topped with trippy
chants. In contrast, the insrtrumental 'Kris Klayton Dub' takes it way deep
featuring uplifting strings over a stormin' groove.
KHAIMAR
"Music For The People" - Dom's Miami Deep Mix (CD-R)
Domenico
'Dom' Navarra, one half of Sueno
Soul, comes up with this lovely reworking of this classic that features a
spoken word vocal by Marcel. Dom’s interpretation is combining the
spoken words with vibes from the timeless Gil Scott-Heron classic "The Bottle",
creating a groovily bumpin' affair that is spreading an uplifting feeling.
SCOTT K vs.
O'JAYS "I Love Music" (Box Music/CD Promo)
"I Love Music"
must be one of those songs that everybody loves to dance to when played in a
club. Scott K takes on this timeless classic, adding spoken words, breaks
and new intros and outros to the song on his 'True to Old School Mix' while let
it sound much like the original. 'The Big Room Mix' is a dub version combining a
solid 4/4 groove with the reminiscent bassline groove of the original, featuring
nice breakdowns and effects.
