Various "Motown
Remixed" (Motown Records CD / 3x12")
Motown Records
are the latest in letting remix their back catalog, available on CD and three
separate 12". Volume one of the vinyls is for the hip hop heads and features
remixes of Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" by Z-Trip and "ABC" by
Salaam Remi, Gladys Knight & The Pips cover of "I Heard It Through
the Grapevine" reworked by The Randy Watson Experience and a remix by
Futureshock of The Undisputed Truth's "Smiling Faces Sometimes". Next
up is the 'club volume' featuring a slammin' DJ Spinna remix of the 70's
soul-funk bomb "Keep On Truckin'" by Eddie Kendricks, a bumpin'
afro-house rework of Edwin Starr's "War" by King Britt and a DJ
Smash remix of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" by Stevie Wonder.
The latest volume gets chilled and is kicked off with a brilliant atmospheric
take by DJ Jazzy Jezz & Pete Kuzma on The Temptations' "Papa Was A
Rollin' Stone", followed by a Paul Simpson & Miles Dalto remix of
Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" and a Groove Boutique reworking
featuring Roy Ayers of Smokey Robinson's "Quiet Storm".
In addition to
the above, the CD features five more tracks: Rare Earth "I Just Want To
Celebrate" (Mocean Worker Remix), Diana Ross & The Supremes "My
world Is Empty Without You" (Tranzition Remix), The Temptations
"Just My Imagination" (Easy Mo Bee Remix), Smokey Robinson & The
Miracles "The Tears Of A Clown" (Hotsnax Remix) and Rick James
"Mary Jane" (DJ Green Lantern Evil Genius Remix).
SIR PIERS
featuring MONIQUE BINGHAM "Fools Got Nothin'" (Curious/test pressing)
Sir Piers
continues to serve us with great slices of bouncing floor boogies. On "Fools Got
Nothin'" he teams up with NYC vocalist Monique Bingham who provides a
soulful and sexy vocal over the feel good groove coming complete with funky bass,
retry keys and crisp beats. With Reel People remixes to follow, this will
be a hot record for the coming weeks and month.
BLVD EAST &
LOUIE 'LOU' GORBEA "Luv 4 Money" (Vega)
Blvd East's &
Louie 'Lou' Gorbea's "Luv 4 Money"
got a huge reaction when played by Louie Vega at the "Magic Sessions" at
this years Winter Music Conference. This track, based on a smooth tribal-ish
groove full of percussive elements and features a female rap and male vocal
together with jazzy keys to create an irresistible feeling, has been picked by
Louie Vega for his own Vega imprint. The release comes complete
with hypnotic dub that got stripped of the keys and bonus beats.
Mambana "Felicidad" – Remixes (SoulFuric Trax/CD Promo)
Last year's
summer smash gets renewed for the upcoming summer season by Rasmus Faber
and JJK (John 'Julius' Knight). Rasmus Faber takes it to a
more soulful direction while keeping the passion of the original and keeping the
vocal floating nicely, featuring all live instrumentation. JJK uses his
trademark sound consisting of chunky beats, smooth bassline and a lovely jazzy
piano line together with Isabel's vocal to create an infectous groover,
available both in vocal and dub version.
SIR PIERS & LOS AMIGOS INVISIBLES featuring SHAUN ESCOFFERY "She's
Gone Away" - Hardsoul Remix (Curious/test pressing)
Part two of this
beautiful song features remixes by Hardsoul who give it a lovely twist.
Their 'Main Remix' is fireing things up with a percussively stompin' groove,
having a retro electro-funk vibe to it and featuring melodic keys. The dub
stripps the keys to intensify the electro-funky feeling.
LI'SHA PROJECT "Feel" (Salted Music/CD Promo)
"Feel" is
produced by Lisa Shaw & Dave Warrin, whose original version comes
on a laidback vibe featuring a smoothly stompin' groove together with melodic
keys, topped with the soulful vocals. Miguel Migs' interpretation is a
powered up affair, based on a fiercely thumpin' groove, added with additional
keys and saxophone stabbs, coming in vocal and dub mixes. Chuck Love
provides a stompin dub on a jazzy-funky tip, spreading an organic vibe.
FUZION
featuring CHRIS HERBERT "I'm So Glad" (Fuzion/CD Promo)
After the
success with their first release "Standing Strong (Without U)" by Maxinne
Inniss, George Mena & Franke Estevez return with "I'm So Glad"
with the addiction of former Blaze member Chris Herbert on vocals.
"I'm So Glad" is an uplifting production featuring a wonderful vocal performance
together with jazzy jeys, funky live bass and sweet percussion over a fierce
groove that is set to explode on the dancefloors. The flipside features the 'Fuzion
Funk Mix' that adds a funky flavor to the song.
PATRICK L featuring MAPEI "Right Into My Soul" (Look-At-You/CD Promo)
"Right Into My
Soul" is produced by Sweden’s Patrick L and feautures a powerful yet
soulful vocal performance from Mapei. This track features a monster piano line
giving it an old school touch, coming on a soulful tip in the original vocal
while the remix vocal is a more jacked up affair with an intensified funky
bassline and sharp beats. The dub is true peak hour affair with a driving groove,
catchy keys and wicked breaks. Finally there is a piano reprise on a smooth vibe.
Smokin' Beats "Street Music"/"Bang That Bang" (Smokin' Beats/CD Promo)
Two different
tracks to be found on this 12". "Street music" features an energetic groove,
added with live bass and drums, making clever use of the disco classic "I Hear
Music In The Streets" by Unlimited Touch. "Bang That Bang" is an
electrofied rework of another dance classic (I'll let you guess the name of it
on this one), coming with a killer bassline, great synth and drums.
KERRI CHANDLER "Bar A Thym"/"Sunshine & Twillight" (NiteGrooves)
Kerri
Chandler returns on King Street/NiteGrooves
with a bangin' two track release. "Bar A Thym" is a twsited percussive gem with
a cowbell and distorted synth leading the way, while "Sunshine & Twillight" is a
soulful mover with Afro-rhythms, deep chords and shuffling beats.
