In
2002, Paul Randolph promoted the beautiful "This Means That" at the
Winter Music Conference, but it took more than 3 years for it to get a full
release. suSU Records picked it up and combine the original mixes with brand new
ones from Bobby & Steve & James Ratcliff.
The original vocal is on a soulful tip with a
bumpy groove with a classy piano solo and a bubbling live bass, while the
original vocal dub is on a moody vibe. The remixes turn it into a soulful garage
song, coming in two different flavas: the 'Urban Groove Full Vocal' comes with
wicked keys over a smoothly stompin' groove, while the 'Vocal Sax Mix' is on a
more mellow vibe, featuring a lovely saxophone. A well deserved Pick of
the Week.
"The Rain" is
the first new track from Reel People since their 2003 "Second Guess" long
player, feeaturing a bouncin' 80's style jazz-funk rhythm with broken beats that
is topped with lead vocals by Sharlene Hector and an uplifting chorus
that build and build throughout the song, with a lovely guitar solo adding a
laidback vibe.
"Let Me Love"
features a sultry Latina vocal performance by Anané together with a rap
by Mr. V over an Afro-latin flavored backdrop of sweet percussion, bass,
keys and guitar that is spreading a mellow feeling.
Arnold Jarvis'
"Take Good Care (Of Me)" is already huge in the Alix Alvarez mixes, now
Franck Roger is dropping his interpretations taking the song to another
level with wonderful keys and a wicked organ solo by Olivier M'Selem over
a smoothly thumpin' groove that lets the sweet and sexy vocal performance by
/Arnold Jarvis/ create an irresistible soulful feeling.
Ian Friday
takes on the fine garage tune "Listen For It" by Markus Enochson
featuring Ingela Olsson, neatly enhancing it with a fiercely stompin'
groove that keeps it soulful and comes complete with warm melodic keys, letting
the sweet voice of Ingela Olsson shine.
There Ain't No Stoppin' of Steal Vybe droppin' great music. Here on the
"Grooves & Melodies EP", they deliver the two instrumental cuts "Rise With The
Sun" and "Let It Play" as well as the semi vocal "Glide" featuring Raymond
Deshields, all of them taking you onto a soulful and spiritual journey into
deep house.
"Sunshine" by
The Layabouts & Jem Seeds featuring Yannis gets the remix treatment
from Jask who gives it a subtle re-rub that keeps the structure of the
original intact, by adding his trademark Thaisoul formula with warm
laminar keys and a deeply stormin' groove, where Yannis uplifting vocal
and the wicked guitar hook can create a hypnotic feeling.
Juke Joint
present the funky two track "Sawdust EP". "Dance 2 House" starts off as a simple
4/4 groove, before the vocal hook and a dope synth line come in to create a
wicked vibe. "Say What" is a bumpin' track featuring a chopped up vocal, rollin'
bassline, smooth keys and jumpin' drum swing, creating an irresistible vibe.
The timeless
"Stars In Your Eyes" that was unleashed by Herbie Hancock back in 1980,
gets taken to the dancefloor by MoD who treat it respectful as they keep
the original vibe alive, underlaying it with a smooth yet powerful groove and
enhance it with cool keys.
