GLENN JONES
I Am Somebody (b/w Instrumental)
RCA/promo
|
The beginning of the eighties saw the arrival of a new era with the massive inclusion of funky based vibes within the production following the works of producers Nile Rogers & Bernard Edwards (Chic), Narada Michael Walden, Leon Sylvers III and Randy Muller to name but a (very) few. Meanwhile RCA label would make itself quite a reputation on this precise niche with people like Fonzi Thornton, Keni Burke, Odyssey, Plush and others including Glenn Jones. Although not a new comer (as shown by his contribution on Norman Connors Mr C LP in 1980), 1983 was no doubt THE year for this Jacksonville born singer who was to score a solo deal with the label and release his Everybody Loves A Winner debut album with producers such as Robert Wright, Al McKay (One Way) and Hubert Eaves (D-Train). Not to be known from the 1975 Jimmy James classic of the likes, this dope groove featuring a short snippet of one of the late Revd Luther King‘s countless speeches firmly proved that our man was definltely somebody to count with in the following years.
