What I best
remember and would like to point out about the 70’s/ beg of the 80’s period is
that total freedom left to people in terms of production as opposed to nowadays.
Thus resulting in a whole bunch of different vibes around which you could listen/dance
to, from pure funk to sugar disco, jazz, electro or rock influenced grooves, and
have the crowd so open minded at the time. We was surrounded by fusion at its
very best, this being for much in the worldwide recognition of all those
musicians together known as The Crusaders, such as Joe Sample,
Styx Hooper and Wilton Felder, not to mention Randy Crawford
and Bill Withers for their vocal contributions. Givin’ its name to this
album released in 1980, this absolute soul/jazz piece of hope owes very much to
the awesome vocal interpretation of Bobby Womack melted with the magical
touches of both Felder playing the sax, Arthur ‘You Got The Floor’
Adams’s fat bassline over Paulihno Da Costa’s shiny percs.
Music is a
language at the end of the day and what a language when declined the way it is
with so many subtilities ! MFSB
