BAH SAMBA featuring THE FATBACK BAND "Let The Drum Speak" (BKO/CD Promo)

Hot on the heels of "Calma" comes a revisited version of the Fatback Band's 1975 classic "Let The Drum Speak", with the original version recorded in a jam session between Bah Samba and Fatback's Jonny Flippen on bass and Bill Curtis on drums. This is a faithful interpretation of the classic full of funky vibes, spreading a soulful vibe. Phil Asher gives the song a soulful house outfit, drizzled with funky guitars, classy brass and superb vocal harmonies courtesy of Alice Russell. In contrast, Harvey turns out a downtempo groover reminiscent of the old school funk and soul days, with extra instrumentation added, spreading a timeless vibe.

FRANCK ROGER & M'SELEM featuring CHRIS WONDER "You Can Be The One" (Free Radikalz Remix)(Real Tone 12")

The debut release on Franck Roger's label Real Tone Records gets reworked by DJ Spinna who gives it a wonderful touch of his refined garage house vibes, featuring a bumpin' groove and wicked keys by Selan Lerner, creating a superbly groovy and fresh interpretation that lets the sweet voice of Chris Wonder create a soulful feeling.

THE LOST TRIBES OF IBADAN "Orixas Revisited" (GotSoul 12")

After an extended period of not having any commercial release, GotSoul kick off their upcoming release schedule with these remixes of the Kerri Chandler & Jerome Sydenham production "Orixas". First up is the Fred Everything who keeps the jazzy vibe of the original but transforms the song into a steadily grooving track with smooth percussion and a deeply thumpin' beats. Dennis Ferrer goes for a deeply stormin' reworking that is built around the sexy vocal adlibs and the jazzy instrumentation, while Kaje goes for a laidback version that is spreading a mellow vibe.

STEAL VYBE featuring STEPHANIE RENEE "After Hours" (SpaceKat CD Promo)

"After Hours" was one of four tracks featured on the "Dance 4 life" EP, the first release on Steal Vybe's own label, that  has now been picked by up SpaceKat Records for a full single relase. The first package of fresh mixes is provided by Steal Vybe themselves, keeping the soulful vibe and wonderful vocal performance by Stephanie Renee intact while giving the song a groovy packaging by using a thumpin' groove together with warm melodic keys and a deeply rumblin bassline. Additional mixes by Quentin Harris will follow soon.

FEMI KUTI "Traitors Of Africa" / "Do Your Best" (Un-Restricted Access 12")

Femi Kuti, the son of the legendary Fela Kuti, returns to the dance territory by teaming up with Quentin Harris and Timmy Regisford. "Traitors Of Africa" is featured in two versions that combine that incomparable Quentin Harris sound with a churchy organ solo and Femi Kuti's vocals, by keeping the result full of afro-funky flavors. Although "Do Your Best" on the flip is produced by Timmy Regisford, there is no sign of house as this is pure afro music.

MARLON D "Love Is Key" (Jellybean Soul 2x12")

Marlon D's debut longplayer on Jellybean Soul Records is now also available as limited edition 2x12", including the so far unreleased 83 West remix of "Affection" which features Stephanie Renee on vocals. Tyrone Solomon & Martino Lozej under their 83 West moniker give it a complete re-rub based on deeply stompin' beats and melodic keys that create lovely harmonies, with the overall result being on a more laidback tip compared to the original version.

STEAL VYBE "Reach" (Steal Vybe Music 12")

The next chapter in the success story from Steal Vybe is "Reach" where they team up again with the wonderful singer Stephanie Renee who provides a sulty vocal performance over a groovy backing track featuring a deep bassline and shuffling beats, all of which are enhanced with a jazzy flute by Damon Bennett and backing vocals by Chris Dockins. The result is a soulful house gem that is spreading an uplifting feeling.

MARLON D vs DENNIS FERRER "Breeze" (City Deep CD Promo)

Marlon D and Dennis Ferrer, two of New York's most in demand producers team up for "Breeze", a slice of pure underground house music as it can only come out of the Big Apple. "Breeze" starts off with deeply rumblin' beats and drums, before the keys and vocals by Dennis Ferrer himself come in, giving this track a unique feeling, taking you straight into the underground.

DENNIS FERRER "Son Of Raw" (Ibadan 12" Promo)

Ibadan Records continue with "Son Of Raw" where "Stockholm Go-Bang" and "Sandcastles" left: an irresistible track to kill the dancefloors, produced by Dennis Ferrer who blends a funky bassline groove with some wild keys and shuffling beats, with a "You Don't Know" vocal loop coming in towards the end that intensifies the irresistible feeling. This single sided 12" features just one version, but this is all this wonderful tracks needs.

MOOD LIFE "Mystery Of Love" (The Heavy Remake)(USB CD Promo)

"Mystery Of Love" was the record that started the incomparable career of Larry Heard, with Robert Owens providing an oustanding sexy vocal performance. "Mystery Of Love" was a defining record for house music featuring incredible laminar keys over a deep groove, here updated by Marshall Jefferson for the new millenium, keeping the intense feeling of the keys alive and putting them over a stompin' groove and adding some aggressive percussion.

FOREMOST POETS "Besides Myself" (SoulGroove 12")

The Johnny Dangerous written "Besides Myself" was originally relased on "The Lost Tracks EP Vol. 1" back in spring 2004 and has been gettings lots of play since then. Now this track gets a welcome full 12" relase featuring brand new mixes by the team of DJ Spen & Neil Conway who place the catchy vocal hook over a deeply stormin' groove that is driven an incredible piano giving this remix an irresitible vibe. Also included is the original version for those who missed it first time around.

ACE "How Long" (Mr. Cubanix Remix) (CD-R)

Mr. Cubanix is taking on "How Long", the biggest hit by Ace, a pop/rock band that was around in the mid 70's. "How long" is one of those polished pop numbers you can listen to in every occasion, here transferred by Mr. Cubanix straight to the dancefloor by using just the reminiscent chorus of the vocals and layering it over a smoothly thumpin' groove that comes complete with warm melodic keys.

THE RHYTHM SLAVES featuring JOSEPH "Someday" (Easy Street 12")

The legendary Easy Street Records coming out of the sinking with this release by The Rhythm Slaves. "Someday" is a feel good house production featuring a lovely instrumentation and sweet vocals by Richard Gow, with an alternate more percussive version offering a spoken word vocal courtesy of Joseph Agami. Kid Massive provides the remix, giving the track a more distinct garage flavor featuring a jazzy instrumentation that comes to full effect on the dub version.
