Politics Of Dancing: IS HOUSE (MUSIC) DEAD ?
Posted on Tuesday, November 01 @ 12:51:16 CET by mfsb

The Politics Of Dancing
What a question indeed, isn’t it ? Although we’ve sort of seen it recently mentioned on our forum. This said, issues are numerous to make us wonder about its (possible ?) future ! As it’s one of the fundamental aspects of life to see things coming to an end while others are coming to light. Unless it should simply be redefined for a better acceptance of a growing amount of peeps who don’t understand anymore what it really stands for…

Look what they done to (our) house ! When I’m saying ‘they’, I’m talking about of those who’ve taken advantage of it although given a pale interpretation of the whole, with the help of reviewers who’ve ended up dismantling it into countless micro niches. And when I’m saying ‘(our) house’, I mean the one which many of us have adopted back in the days following the footsteps of the defunct disco, should it come from NYC, Jersey, Chicago and even Detroit ! And the things are about the same regarding the so called garage music, the signification of which depending wether you’re based in America or England, following the successive arrivals of the said speed garage which would become the UK garage and eventually give birth to 2step. C’mon, let’s have a quick look, will you ? What do Ron Trent, Bob Sinclar, Tiefschwartz, Herbert and Jay-J in common ? Not that much I would say, if not nothing, although they’re all said to be doing house music… I understand while going to some Italian restaurant that I may be served tortellini, spaghetti, tagliatelle, lasagna but I know that I’m gonna eat pastas, should they be Bolognese, Napolitana or whateva. Is this the same regarding the aforementioned as far as house music is concerned ? Rather leaving this to you while you may guess that I therefore have my own opinion ! And that’s finally about the same when talking about… techno. Is this solely a genre as many people have stated along the years or more of a state of mind judging by what’s happening in Detroit ? Do the music hailing from this place have anything in common with the so called German techno for instance ??? Not so much neither at the end of the day, has it ? And would you consider some anonymous wine coming from California the same way as a Bordeaux Grand Cru Millésime ? Maybe so when used to drink nothing but Coke ! This meaning in such case that you wouldn’t know anything about wine ! Another matter of awareness unfortunately due to a global lack of references but also to the fact that many deciders have definitely turned their backs to it while searching for some reputed e-z-ness. What’s finally happening when taking all the basic substances making a thing what it is ? You kill it and the cruellest thing is that house may have been killed by the ones who’ve reputedly been a part of the game more than the said outsiders if not opponents… Quite ironical, isn’t it ?
Is house dead ? I leave this to your own device, although – on a more positive side of the things – I would say that the ones doing good music will certainly keep on doing so whatever it is and chances are great to see them keepin’ on having supporters. You can count on us to be amongst the first of’em. MFSB
