While the whole record industry looks like lookin’ for itself facing multi-facetted changes in addiction to a contemporary production mostly repeating itself to a point where many peeps tend to say that everything’s been written, there’s a thing that many of us seem to have forgotten for ages : the establishment of a real identity…
Although some of you may say that we’re goin’ far once more, haven’t we got any reason to question ouselves as far as our said civilized world behaves? Have a look for instance at the invention of a genius X or Y then what others would eventually make of it. Na folks, it’s not technology that has to be incriminated, but its hijacking in the name of particular interests even though they may constitute a threat as far as the whole humanity is concerned. Such as the current homogenization of our planet and the subsequent destruction of biodiversity. A thing which quite applies to what I’d be tempted to call the audiodiversity as far as the contemporaty production is concerned in the name of the said unique thought. Havin a 360° look at what’s happening nowadays, then what do we see? Basically, a whole bunch of untalented people who, with the help of technology, are considered like today’s heroes, while appropriating for their own selves what’s been doneby others earlier, without makin’it better. Not to mention all those prefabricated puppets around occupying the first seats with the support of a crowd who, because of the current lack of true references, can’t even make anymore the distinction between art and mediocrity, not to say crap. This said, and it’s reknown worldwide: half a loaf is better than none, isn’t it?
And as if it wasn’t enuff, I’m not even talkin’ about my collegues of the paper press – and I don’t give a sh** if ever I lose some x-tra reputed friends – who would do almost everything in order – first - to save their asses as opposed to stay true to what they’re supposed to be. And pardon me when I’m tellin’ them how there’s none so deaf as those who will not hear!!! No surprise then seing the publications they’re workin’ for disappearing one after another as years go.
As a simple comparison, what the cooks have achieved - and I’m not even talking about the big chiefs – is a good exemple of what should be done. I mean, betting on what makes them so special, should they be Italian, Chinese, Indians or French. And I guess it wouldn’t come to your mind askin’ for a suvlaki at a Cuban restaurant nor a pizza at some Japanese one, would it? This is why we’ve never tried to cover everything, should it be the result of the latest trends, as opposed to stick to what took us so long to build : our identity! In the great tradition of those most remembered adventures such as Philadelphia International Records, Salsoul or Motown whose execs have known to stay true – when they’ve not invetend it – to a direction!
