Our guest today is none other than the perfect exemple of a man who’s decided to remain true to who he is against all odds. A man dedicated to death to what he loves as he admits thereafter. And what he loves, he does it well as demonstrated by the whole bunch of productions and remixes that he’s done over the years. Now kidz, for our greatest pleasure : the Distant NYC man, Jon Cutler !
Would you mind having a few words as an introduction to where you're coming from, who you are and where you intend to go ?
Jon Cutler, I'm coming from Brooklyn New York and I intend to stay here. You can call me a dj/producer and I'll be a HOUSE HEAD till the day I die.
The sparkle which would make you become who you are. I started out interested in Music. I quickly started collecting records. Breakdancing during the day and heading to the clubs at night. My life has been mostly about music. I started buying studio equipment when I was a teenager. Djing in Manhattan and slowly started making Tracks.
Where to find you, and your current environment in terms of local scene / nightlife ?
In NYC. I am a 100% home body. I rarely go out anymore. It's not that I don't support, I'm just a little older now and am more involved in the studio.
Your heroes ? Dave Chapelle.
The ones you feel the closest to. My Bulldog.
The way you work and your source of inspiration. My inspiration comes from a lot of ol’ 70's records. I enjoy listening to the arrangements and mixdown qualities of the older tracks. I start with a drum beat and add from there.
Your definition of a good piece of music… The hook is the most important thing as far as I'm concerned.
Of a good nite. When the crowd is open minded and are up for everything.
The way you'd like to be looked at… As some one who has made a contribution to the industry.
Your best/worst souvenir… My sea shell from the Mauritius Island. My lost baggage.
Your perception of the current situation and the things which need to evolve...
I was a little discouraged 2 years ago with the new way music was being bought and sold. The lack of vinyl sales and this new thing called downloading. But I think everyone has done a good job of adjusting. Things are getting better now. I will continue to grow.
The thing you love at most… New episodes of Sopranos.lol
The one you hate at most… …
Your current projects ? Pete Simpson Living. Coming soon on Distant Music.
The way you see Miami and what you expect from it Miami is Miami. I'm going down to see my all my friends at once and have a good time.
Any secret weapon of yours over there ? Not sure yet. One weak to go by the time we’ve had this conversation.
Your 3 favourite all time songs ? Stevie Wonder ‘All I Do’, Ten City ‘Devotion’ and Russ Brown ‘Find Away’.
Thank U, MFSB
