Greetings! |
 |
|
Hope those who went to Miami had a great time. One can say with the less than warm temperatures down there that it was the most "refreshing" conference ever. Eternal thanks go to everyone who participated in the King St 13 Year Anniversary Event. Some pics have indeed been uploaded but there are still more to come.
Returning to the city, the post-Miami blues were quickly wiped away when we found out mink had reached the #1 slot on the Billboard Dance Chart, making this our second #1 single in under a year. Moreover, there were many other cool singles and very special events to follow. See for yourself below... |

Originally released in February, this debut US single was bound for greatness. With big-room remixes by the super Chris Cox and progmeisters Creamer & K, the buzz in the big clubs had begun. A few weeks passed and the single was getting stronger, being added to mixshows and regular rotation on BPM, XM Satellite Radio's mainstream dance station. Now with bonus remixes coming out the second week of May, all the pieces are put into place to make this a pop dance hit.
As with most artists, it all began with a demo. It happened to be mink covering her favorite artists such as Norah Jones, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and asian singer Rimi Natsukawa. Her voice on the covers sounded absolutely amazing, singing those legendary hit tunes on par with the original artists. mink didn't just try to imitate the international vocalists rather she created a new vocal sound; A fusion between that of an exquisite Asian voice with that of a first-class international diva. Her performance at this year's King St. Music Conference Event in Miami thrusted this international singing sensation into pop dance music stardom. This is just the beginning. | |

There's no disputing the success this record has created since its release over a year ago. Yet it's still being playing and people are still going nutz whenever a dj drops it. Now in 2006, brand new HOT import mixes are being issued by Defected and we're excited to be releasing these stateside. New mixes by Freemasons, Ian Carey, Sergio Flores, DJ Takashiro, & Chocolate Puma (UK only) will be coming up in May.
For now, you can be the first to see the video with radio edit of the Freemasons "Proper" Club Mix as a bed for the story. The video is done in clever animation of Blaze (Kevin Hedge & Josh Milan) & Barbara Tucker going out to perform the hit. See cameos by Louie Vega & Kenny Dope, David Morales, Dennis Ferrer, Bob Sinclar, Dimitri from Paris, Sandy Rivera, Joey Negro, and others. The legend lives on.

House Music Love Child, Sunshine Jones, (formerly of Dubtribe Sound System) takes his professional leave of Moonbeam and comes to Nite Grooves. with some amazing new solo productions. Stemming from a full-length project forthcoming on said label, “Seven Tracks in Seven Days”, come two singles being manufactured as a AA Side, available only on vinyl and digital download.
“I Believe” – A straight out hot digital house record that goes on for over 10 minutes. This is one record that you don’t want to end! The ride on this is spectacular. The haunting tenor voice will convert any non-believer. Long drawn out synths and jabbing tones over a classic 4/4 beat is right in this house’s alley. “I Surrender” – Don’t give up just yet! This one’s such an easy trip – such a lovely track that will take you to the nether regions of the inner sanctum. What does that mean? Peace and upbeat serenity and let’s not forget love. Give into your love – that’s the message in this totally cool-ass feel- good tonal chill track.

Another group of hot soulful remixes, stemming from the Blaze presents Underground Dance Artists United for Life “Keep Hope Alive” album comes out on King Street. This batch reinterprets Blaze feat. Ultra Naté, “Wonderful Place” putting some extra spring in the step. UK DJ/Producers Bobby & Steve hit us with a lovely rendition reminiscent of a classic percussive soulful MAW mix that’s sure to please. Our very own Tomo gives us a deep synthy laid back dubby feel with slight vocal injections for added flavor. On the flip, the Fanatix, Britain’s Aaron Ross from BBC 1Xtra and uber- producer Neil Pierce, keep us movin’ with an all out digital melodic interpretation, on their Main Mix minus some of Ultra’s vocals on the dub. What a Wonderful Place indeed.

Definitely one of the most recognized soulful/deep records of this year’s Miami Music Conferences, this is not a record to be slept on. Legendary Dance Music songstress, Joi Cardwell, teams up with hot hot hot super-producer, Quentin Harris, to create a post-house-lounge masterpiece. It keeps us moving with its steady, swift, traveling beats. Joi’s sensuous vocals invite us to feel like what it’s like to be free and what’s it’s like to be (me) her. Deep and pumping, this is a great set starter with its electro-licious chords that sit perfectly behind some smooth vocals. Don't miss Joi Cardwell performing this single LIVE at Quentin Harris' special monthly Sunday party, Fresh Fruit, at Cielo. (Details below!)

What a TREAT this record’s gonna be! The words “Beat That Bitch” go down as probably one of the most sampled phrases in dance music, since its Johnny Dangerous Nite Grooves inception in ’97, being reworked over loops and various drum tracks. Nite Grooves is now proud to announce the official re- release or the single with Hip-House sounding remixes by Louie Vega protégé Mr. V. The Sole Channel Mix starts off with a light tap mixed with a classic 4/4 bass beat. The flavor pulls us from the street onto the dancefloor with its synth tones and blunt looping vocal. The battle continues with a call and response of these news vocals and Johnny’s legendary phrase that’ll take you back to Red Zone. The Mr. V Vibal Dub has a deeper, spacey, echo-laced sound with a clever answering machine vocal insertion that take us through the course of the night making us wish we were there
