It's not a problem that I can't fix, coz' I
can do it… IN DA MIX
Say kids, wot time izit ? It's time 4 house ! Countdown is
definitely on as this Independance Day W.E. in NYC sees some serious things
happening. First is Harmony this friday, a benefit community event brought by
srs Lee & Marcus dis Friday nite in order to collect funds for the
airing of Jennifer Hooper's Liquid Sound Lounge on WBAI, one of
the (too) rare house radio shows in the Big Apple. Enlisted are 10 DJ's
including Andrea Clarke-Sister
from Another Planet, Clete, Adam Warped-El Gato Musica,
Shan-Cloud Kickers, Brazilian Beat-Black Betty, Kotema
Noble-Kassanova Lowlite and Siren-House of Siren. Not talking
about a three hours DJ set by our sis, Jeaanie + a special live performance by
Tortured Soul. This, happening at Art Land Bar, 609 Grand Street,
Williamsburg, Brooklyn (more infos : 001 718 599.9706.

to get you in the right mood as funk/soul diva Chaka Khan is to rock da
floor on saturday for a PA at Summer Stage in Central Park, prior to a marathon
DJ concentration at Clubshelter, starting from 07:00 PM til 05:00 PM the day
after, with contributions from 'Little' Louie Vega, Kenny Dope,
Danny Krivit, Phil Asher, DJ Spinna, Frankie Feliciano,
Jazzy Jeff and Glenn Underground around resident Timmy
Regisford (more infos : (001) 212-719-4479.

Meanwhile the following Thursday will be the starting point of Sunslice festival
in Toulon (France) with la crème de la crème of the deep house scene featuring
Blaze, Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer, Jerome Sydenham,
JoVonn, DJ Deep, Pascal 'Rotax' Rioux, DJ Bool and
Jerk House Connection, The Offsetters,
Kardek, Hanna Haïs and many others + yours trully (more infos :
www.sunslice-festival.com). And for those who're gonna miss this and
more particularly Blaze, the Cheers team in Paris has managed to offer us
an extra session with the two guys, not on Friday at La Coupole as usual, but on
Sunday 07/13 starting from 08:30 PM wit' a BBQ party at la terrasse du Jardin
d'Acclimatation, avenue Mahatma Gandhi, metro/subway Sablon, line/ligne 1 (more
infos :

Please note that IDM will go on a
lighter rhythm as the summer goes along, due to some DJ sessions of your very
devoted here and there, some studio seesions for the recording of my next CD-Mix
awaited somewhen during the autumn on London label Seamless Recordings and, last
but not least, some summer break. As concerning In Da Mix network, a new member
joins the family —
www.deephousemafia.org — spreading the good words to Vienna, Austria.
Welcome on board. But for now, time 2 go back 2 the fundament of dis rendez-vous
with a new selection of some of the hottest audio vibes around…
Boys, boys, boys… Or shall I say Blaze,
Blaze, Blaze, almost everywhere at the same time with a solid
collection of relifted wax of their own, not mentioning their latest production
— "We Are One" — on King Street ! Get on one hand broken beat keyboardist,
Kaidi Tatham aka Agent K, on the other, brit songstress Carleen
Anderson and on the third, either DJ Spinna on the B-side or Blaze on
the A-one, well no need to wait anymore as you get one of the most soulful piece
of plastic of this year 2K3. A pure jewel originally released of Laws Of Motion
that receives a new life after being licensed on Giant Step with the indeniable
know how that is their !And the same oughta B said about Reel People
featuring Jag's newie entitled "Second Guess", another true soul gem
from Papa Records, a UK label fast making a name amongst the purveyors of
quality.
Slightly more dancefloorish is the 'Blaze
Vocal Soul Mix' of "So Close" from Electroacoustic, a british trio that
sees bassist Nick Seymour and vocalist Aurora Dawn around former
Brand New Heavies lead guitarist, Simon Bartholomew (Outer
Recordings). All of this following the footsteps of their rework of the recent
DJ Jorj's "Only You" and its sunny jazzy mood (Distant Music). Not too
bad indeed, like Shelter Records' last dope — "Agua" from Javermeyer
featuring brazilian vocalist Naughty Miranda — and its Extended Version
edited by Timmy Regisford givin'it some subtle arrangements.
Swedish (nu)jazz fan, Marchus Enochson
gives us another slice of beauty with the 12" release of the aptly named
"Feeling Fine" on MAW that sounds like a contemporary equivalent to the late
Chet Baker's works due to its absolute purity (check out the 'Suedo Jazz Mix'
on da B-side). As aerial although more beat tapped is Needs' latest "Dark
World". A concept somewhere between Ron Trent's works and the
memorable Life On Earth leadin'us into this kind of spatial groove that
makes their trademark with some vocal parts not too far away from the Pet
Shop Boys' tones ! Feels like this will shortly be an anthem (Needs Music).
Nice to see the return of former Ten City
front man, Byron Stingily with the magnificient "Sweet Dream" associated
to Yasushi Ide under the name of Lonesome Echo Productions. A real
soul classic enlighted with old school violins line + latin percussions and if
this was not enuff, this marvel is coupled with a deep'n'crispy contribution
from Osunlade on the B-side called "Soul Galactic" (Disrorient). Don't
really know when Ben Mitchell is sleeping as it almost seems that he has
something on offer every week. This time, Dewburry's partner reforms with
Cosmo and Gav (from Disorient), delivering us the soulful "Upstream"
under their Tidal moniker, featuring the vocal talents of Jennifer.
For sure, these people have a proper idea of what's supposed to be good muzak ;
not talking about some x-tra broken beat delicatessen as delivered by Lok8
who's none other than Orin Walters (Disorient).
Loads of good things to come out of Italy
these days, as shown by Fuzz Against Junk's latest. A big band jazz tune
that reminds some previous works from Joe Claussell, Antonio Ocasio
and erh… Ben Mitchell ! Needless to say that this corker is for absolute
music lovers. This added to a Nicola Conte mix on da flipside. Ma che
bellissimo (Location Recordings). In love with this kinda vibez ? Well, check
out the "Not Alone" track by Sure Pleasure and more especially its "Sure
Pleasure Dub" mix as it feels like deeeep heaven boomer (Irma). Ending up dis
issue 17 with another mediterranean maestria under the form of the vibrant "Musica
Feliz" from Rodamaal, a french portuguese production team with the vocal
support of Nicinha, smelling holidays like hell (Buzzin' Fly).
Welcome to a promising new summer,
Peace,
MFSB
