The proper of a said elaborated language is its ability to transcript what we want to signify on the most acurate way. To such extend, it’s often heard that one lends to no one but the riches and this applies far beyond the primar meaning of this famous saying. As an illustration the sometimes incredible amounts which are paid for certain tunes on the second hand market. One then tends to have the confirmation on how there are no real limits as far as quality – and subsequently talent – is/are around the bend, which is far from being the least ironical as compared to most of the contemporary production getting back to anonomity once the buzz is over...
I guess the reputedly well thinking observers would get on the same ol’thing explaining to whoever wants to listen to them how times have changed as well as the consumption habits and how music and its usual media – the disc – have had to suffer from the arrival of a whole bunch of products which have had some negative impact in terms of sales, but is this the only reason ? Even better... or worse depending on where we tend to locate ourselves, wouldn’t that be a real enticement at the end of the day ??? That famous tree trying to hide the forest however the disease is somewhere else!!! And the same question to be as acurate, although on different terms, on many other spheres whereas crisis – understand decreasing sales when not absence of them – is the main subject of worries. With, here as well, a furious counter example brought by the likes of German cars manufacturer Porsche whose sales have never been so high despite prices far from being affordable to a vaste majority of peeps. And ya know why? For the same reason as everywhere else : in other words because of the extreme care brought to the search of absolute quality and also because they’ve managed to maintain alive the know how to stay true to a certain idea that’s is theirs as far as the product is concerned however the reputed excpectations of the market may look slightly different...
Those last months/years have seens the arrival of new behaviours as far as the consumers are concerned with a growing tendancy to look for prices always cheaper not to say for freedom of charges. But as its signification may suggest, we all know per definition how what’s available for free doesn’t have real value, quickly showin’ its limits one day or another. And its obviously the case of a vaste amount of services/gods at our disposal today with no other consequence than the one of seing us becoming the slaves of a system which manages to retrieve 100 times what its seems to give for free on the other hand as notoriously demonstrated by the telecom industry...
The reason of those lines isn’t to argue against a way of life about which there’s nothing we can really do but rather to stand as a reminder of the absolute necessity for each of us to keep our freedom of thinking/(re)acting alive in order to avoid amplifying the movement.
As a matter of fact, we would hardly imagine a mechanic X or Y taking the basis of an out of date model then recycle it without any negociated permission but this doesn’t prevent us from admitting that a guy X or Y may appropriate for himself the work of another the way many people do today, officially or not. And even worse, to give him a credit which is not his while buying this or that bootleg for the reason being that it is much more affordable than an original edition, as it’s recently been the case of Chicago’s famous ‘Street Player’ made available under the ironical form of a sealed promo copy, after a first attempt earlier on via a poor quality pressing!!! Up to you to have your own opinion as far as such processes are concerned... As if everything was allowed at the end of the day. But til which extend? Although it’s known how none of those thangz doesn’t get any value as time goes, like a big majority of the current production. This tending to prove how there’s no other music – organic as electronic – than the one made by those having a real knowledge of the language they use to express themselves – in other words, music – and how they inevitabily end up being recognized as far as time go. In conclusion those having the power of the decision should be fairly well inspired to think about regiving time back to the artists, the way it was til the end of the 80’s. It is, far beyond the frequently announced death of the vinyl, the shortest way to bring back the music to what it is supposed to be : a major art... MFSB
