Greetings!

Hope you had a great Summer! This will definitely be one to remember. There have been so many incredible events in & out of the city and so much phenomenal music. On a truly sad note, we've had to say goodbye to some dear old friends and Dance Music/Club Legends Adam Goldstone, Willie Ninja, and Hector Cruz (House Nation). They will be sorely missed and remain in our hearts forever more. Their passing brought deep sorrow; having left true & distinct legacies in their wake. We've learned so much from these wonderful people and they've touched us all in some very special way. We know they would want us to continue celebrating our own lives and to love and respect all the people in it.

In their light we will continue to issue great music that will hopefully enlighten and lift spirits. This month we'll hear serene & lovely new Mateo & Matos tunes, From P-60 from Hungary!, an expert Danny Krivit Edit of the smashing Joi Cardwell & Quentin Harris production, and a brand new Echologist double A Side that'll be doing some damage in the lounge. There's also some great info on an upcoming event listed below. Please read on and as always a million thanks for your continued support!

This double A Side single comes to King St from one of house music’s most eminent production teams, Mateo & Matos. Though not stereo-typical of their style, this set of tunes give good credence to their soft house music production ability. On the A Side, “Celestial Movements”, two simple low-end grand piano chords dominate throughout the instrumental. They set the scene for sounds entering as a funky bassline, squealy guitar riff, and classic 4/4 drum loop weave seemlessly throughout. Side B gives us “The Keys” which consists mainly of bubbly conga rhythms, cosmic chords, floaty synths, musical saw tones and a nice rubbery bassline. This is pure non-intrusive, non-vocal house music that’s great for the last sunset beach session or even the bumpin' roller disco.

KSS 1235 - Release Date: Sept. 12, 2006 - OUT THIS WEEK!

In our quest to scour far away lands for hot up & coming producers, Hungarian producer Zoltan From P-60 makes his deep debut on Nite Grooves with a groovy, greezy new EP entitled "Slow Movements In The Night" . Though hanging tight onto what’s sure to become his signature style, it’s not unlike that of the almighty minimal tech master Timewriter or Terry Lee Brown or any others from Plastic City. Yes, we took you there. In Zoltan's productions, various melodies, beat patterns, and café-groovin’ arrangements, from “Go Forward” to “Unknown Roads” lay the groundwork to these uniquely atmospheric instrumentals. This is definitely one of those EPs that you’ll need two of, making the back to back play in your lounge sets flow with certain ease.

KNG 257 - Release Date: Sept. 12, 2006 - OUT THIS WEEK!

While this is more of an expansion than an “edit” in the true sense of the word, globally-renowned DJ Danny Krivit brings an epic 10 1/2 minute flair to this monster deep tune, "What It Feels Like", sung by the ever- legendary Joi Cardwell and blazing hot producer Quentin Harris. Danny’s edit doesn't stray far from the original (making this an edit and not a remix, of course) but the amazing re-arrangements on his Re-Edit and Vocal Reprise are what breathe new life into this single. And if that’s not enough, Quentin brings forth a yet-unreleased warpy bassed, string-laden dub version of the single that simply kicks sonic ass.

KSS 1236 - Release Date: Sept. 25, 2006

Echologist returns to Nite Grooves for a second time, bringing more of his super dub-sonic sounds that we just cant get enough of. Known also as Beat Pharmacy, his style shines bright on these two separately sounding 45 RPM singles. “Strut” is an utterly future cosmic, funked out dub along the lines of what you’d hear at Francois K’s Deep Space party at Cielo. If you’ve never been, you absolutely should and this tune will give you a good idea of some of what’s played. “Wonders” on the other hand, is definitely more on the synthy electric deep house tip. It’s one of these instrumentals that doesn't need a vocal and you’ll hear being played ‘til its very end. Collectively, these 2 phenomenal tunes are the true essence of glacial cool-out, head-nodding eccentricity. We’re talking Polar-cool.

KNG 259 - Release Date: Sept. 25, 2006
The new City Life series is brought to you by the people behind the massively popular Bargrooves series. Seamless Recordings; champions of the best tracks from individual producers and labels from around the globe, has formed City Life to feature the best selection of fresh music from acclaimed labels and acts that typify the sounds from the cities from which they hail....

Two such labels that championed the fledgling house sounds of NYC, and with well over a decades worth of releases to their respective names, King Street Sounds & Gossip Records, come head-to-head on City Life: Underground New York. Mixed by Jason Hayer and Native New Yorkers, they both showcase tracks that epitomize the true underground sound of soulful house in which New York and New Jersey is known for worldwide.

Release Party! In conjunction with mega NYC house institution, GBH. Free cd giveaways celebrating the release! We will also be celebrating multiple King St. crew b-days: Jason Hayer, joeB, & Madoka, and bidding a Bon Voyage to Taka, our big-loved production person. So come congratulate & offer well wishes to the lot!

What can we say after all that's been said about dear Adam. The news shocked our community and we're still not over it. We may never be. His death was very untimely and the only way to gain some sort of closure is by knowing that he, as well as Willie and Hector, lived life to its fullest and brought absolute joy into the lives of the people that knew him.

For those who knew Adam, he was the epitome of wit and eclectic style. As Tricia Romano wrote in this week's Village Voice, "Indeed [Bruce] Tantum and Goldstone's father both relay what were supposedly his last words. When he fell for the second time shortly after arriving at Burning Man, his friends slipped him into a pair of pants before rushing him to get medical attention. Goldstone took one look at their choice and said, 'Oh, those won't do.'"

There have been a few events in Adam's honor throughout the city including last week's event at Gravity & tonight's event thrown by Joanne Jiminez & ALMA at SinSin in lower Manhattan. Lookout for a special official event at Cielo in November. Goodbye, dear Adam. May you rest in peace.

Dancer, Voguer, Doorman, Model, Artist extraordinaire Willi Ninja has also been taken from us. He was so much to so many people and his passing too left a big hole in our souls. He will never be forgotten.

AP: "Inspired by Fred Astaire, "Great Performances" on PBS, Asian culture and Olympic gymnasts, Ninja was a self-taught performer who stitched together a patchwork of a career that extended into the worlds of dance, fashion and music. The critically acclaimed 1990 documentary, directed by Jennie Livingston, shed light on the subculture in which the cross-dressing participants, many of them black and Latino, displayed their costumes and styles at Manhattan balls. On a deeper level, the balls became a colorful demonstration of serious issues of gender, class and race. Ninja -- born William Leake in 1961 -- said the drag- queen balls began in the 1960s, and over the years new varieties of performance, including voguing, evolved as more gays participated. "I didn't find out about it until 1980. . . . I didn't know what this was about. I began learning from the experts, and I developed my own style," he told Associated Press in 1991. His career boosted by the attention from "Paris Is Burning," he performed with dance companies, worked under noted choreographers and instructed models and socialites how to walk and pose with frisson. "Whenever you talk about vogue or voguing, Willi's name is there," Livingston said Tuesday. 'Willi refined voguing. He really brought it to an amazing level.'"

God Bless You Willi. You remain forever in our hearts.

Feel free to hit us back should you have any questions or comments. Have a blessed September, remember to love those around you and see you next month!

Sincerely,
King Street Sounds
