Friends,
Dani Siciliano releases her follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut Likes: the sassy, witty slant on modern-day feminism that is Slappers. You all recognise her voice: described by Pitchfork as 'one of the great house singers', she has graced Herbert's albums Around The House, Bodily Functions and Scale. This time she takes her voice, and the production, to another level, calling on the sounds of banging tea cups, womens'... sorry, ladies' arses being slapped and teen rockabilly band 'Kitty, Daisy & Lewis' to help her veer from sultry club groovers like Be My Producer to the country 'n' western electronica hoe-down that is Why Can't I Make You High. And we all got slightly emotional here as the summer ended abruptly, so we started to reflect on the glorious summer that passed.
Temperatures started to soar as Herbert's critically acclaimed Scale was released in May.
In June, Four Tet's masterful DJ-Kicks blended practically every musical genre under the sun, while everyone lay under the sun.
Boozoo Bajou summed up the mood of July by mixing up old blues-inspired and dub-tinged records on Juke Joint II, the aural equivalent of a jug of Pimms and a game of Croquet.
And we all went to the seaside in August. But it's not all doom and gloom as the evenings start to draw in. This autumn we are delighted to announce two new arrivals in the !K7 stables: Scandinavian Jazz combo Koop and our very own Berliner Henrik Schwarz, but more on them next time.
Tschuss, Ciao, A Bientot, Adios, Laters ...
