| Thursday 22.02: YOYO

|
|
LIVE: Joe Driscoll (pic), Kennedy, Dan Audio, Jazzmatix DECKS: Small Arm Fire and Raff Daddy/ Toddla, plus residents Seb Chew, Leo Greenslade
Everyone knows that the weekend starts on a Thursday, don't they? Resident DJs Seb Chew and Leo Greenslade's block party mix of 80's boogie, upfront hip hop, hard funky mash-ups and RnB rarities has made YOYO one of the best hip hop parties around. It's also the favorite hang out spot for Kanye West, Faith Evans and DJ to the stars Mark Ronson (who stops by to spin whenever he's this side of the Atlantic, i.e just last week)
Creating waves on both sides of the Atlantic are the transcendental sounds of modern day one man band, Joe Driscoll. His revolutionary take on music is without boundaries, effortlessly fusing hip-hop, reggae, soul, folk and rock to create a completely original and unique sound. Originally from upstate New York, Driscoll was spotted and signed by London based label Buttercuts Records while touring the UK in 2006. The resulting CD/DVD 'Origin Myths' has made him an international underground legend. |
Friday 23.02: INSPIRATION INFORMATION 6pm-2am, free b4 8pm, £6 b4 11 pm and £8 after |
|
LIVE: Jlovemusic & Academy of Soul (pic) DECKS: Patrick Forge, Phil Asher LADIES FIRST: Sasha Field
Every Friday night Inspiration Information rolls out a selection of quality music, from Disco to Latin. Residents Phil Asher and Patrick Forge are still holding down the most diverse and soulful musical agenda in London town. The early evening session kicks off at 6pm with an all female DJ roster, Ladies First, bringing new energy to the mix. In the nearly always male dominated world of dance music it's difficult for girls to get a break sometimes, so we're happy to provide that opportunity, still keeping the musical values of Inspiration Information true to its principles. From 8.30pm we present a live element each Friday nights, introducing our pick of the flourishing British live music scene.
Jlovemusic & Academy of Soul: Jlovemusic is a deeply creative and exciting singer/song writer, born in Hackney. With his 5 piece collective of wonderfully talented musicians now known as the Academy of Soul he realised that it was time to finally take a stand and grab hold of the dream. Since then, Jlovemusic and the Academy of Soul have risen from strength to strength performing at venues all over London, captivating and enchanting audiences with the smooth yet dymanic sound. |
| Saturday 24.02: afternoon: ROTA: 4pm-8pm, free |
|
|
WITH: Lakes, In-Flight Program (pic), We Are Carnivores plus Signature Tune DJs
Today, the lovely people from Signature Tune Records present The Lakes' record release show.
Lakes started out about 2 and a half years ago as a live side project to jamie and ross's photobook. With only handful of shows under our belt(s) and a revolving door policy on members, it seems as though now the five individuals currently playing together are clear on the direction of things to come at least. All play and have played in various bands together over the years, some you probably heard of, some you wouldn't of, that isn't important. What is important is that all are committed to playing music for music's sake, adhering as much as possible to a DIY ethic that seems obsolete to so many bands today. In-Flight Programwould have you believe that they are striving for rock justice in their slack quiescent manner, but that would be a lie. They are not the best band in the world. |
Saturday 24.02 eve: FUTURO FLAMENCO 8pm-2am, £6 till 11pm and £8 after |
|
WITH: Martin Morales (pic) + John Armstrong
For over 4 years Futuro Flamenco has been one of the hottest and most unique parties in London. Hosted by residents Martin Morales and John Armstrong, the club has been influential in reflecting the ever changing Latin and Spanish music scene playing as much new flamenco hip hop, reggaeton and latin house as original and rare rumba catalana and flamenco funk. The club has thus developed and pioneered a 'future flamenco' sound. Guest acts such as the Dancehall Flamenco queen Tammy Garcia have rocked the house as well as Gypsy Electronica from Alpha-X. Guest Djs such as Barcelona Ojos De Brujo's Dj Panko as well as Frankfurt gypsy music Dj Shantel and New York's Turntables On The Hudson Dj Nicodemus have all found a home from home at FF in front of an appreciative audience. |
Sunday 25.02: UNDERDOG 4pm - 1am, £5 |
|
LIVE: Vote Show Pony, 3rd Day Syndrome (pic), Batusamba, London Sonic Disco DECKS: Jay Hannan
Jay Hannan's monthly Sunday house destination for all things deep and funky is upon us again
3rd Day Syndrome have a brilliantly eclectic, have-to-dance-to, rock and soul sound. Its the kind of vibe you'd only get if you crossed Lenny Kravitz and Parliament with The Commodores. With influences such as The Meters, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Nirvana, Snoop, Jay-Z Richie Havens, Aretha Franklin, Prince and Michael Jackson, Metallica, Snoop, Jay-Z, Nirvana as well as the great funk bands of the 60s and 70s like WAR and Mandrill. They were recently invited to play a show for London Fashion Week. Originally from n16 musician/producer London Sonic Disco aka Nevill Rhodes was part of the late 90's underground arts collective VRTL. He also joined the original 'Vibe Crew' a live music project - playing.. the didgeridoo. it was during this time that the 'First Time' was recorded for the now mythical, unreleased 'Today's Special' album - experimenting with the new software that was available, the visual side to the London Sonic Disco began to be expressed with accompanying videos & shorts. with trips to far out places, inspiration arrived in many forms, from sunrise deejay sets in tea tents at glastonbury to the all nite garden parties in Melbourne - latter collaborations included the Hackneyman EP + remix's for new dodgy and would you believe it - Kenny Lavitz. The Batusamba Collective was created by Alvaro Lopez. Being composed of players from different parts of the world, the members bring a mix of race, culture, style, mindset and heart to the group. They all play and listen to music with a rhythmical emphasis from Samba to Afro-Cuban passing by Jazz, Funk, Rock, Hip Hop DnB, and all underground genres and of course African, Reggae, etc you name it!! |

DECKS: Alan McGee, Dan Devine, Chris Waks LIVE: The Puzzle, The Brian Jacket Letdown (pic), Sigma
Alan McGee's and Dan Devine's weekly night has seen some incredible guest. In Danny and Alan's words: "Maybe The Guardian summed some of the clientele best by saying it is ...a haven for indie celebs and punk veterans. However we consider Death Disco the place to enjoy yourself.
You might have spotted The Brian Jacket Letdown on BBC 2's The Culture Show recently. But then again you might not. In which case you just have to come and take in the breath of fresh air in person... | | |
