LIVE: Bobby Foe, Remi Nicole (pic) DECKS: Seb Chew, Leo Greenslade
Fed up with the usual r&b, chart gangsta hardness, chavvy clientele and the same songs over & over? Well look no further, as residents Seb & Leo continue their much loved yOyO night. The music policy is varied to suit all tastes, with an eclectic mix of everything from 80's boogie and soul through to to hip hop, R'n'B, ragga and even a touch of old skool drum n' bass..
Remi Nicole has been writing songs ever since she was a school girl accompanying reebok classics with her uniform! But it had always been a very personal thing. Where most young girls wrote diaries and gossiped to their friends, Remi Nicole would put her experiences into songs. However even though she has evolved musically since then her songs still very much reflect her life and observations which makes her stuff extremely story driven allowing her personality to shine through. |
Friday 23.03: INSPIRATION INFORMATION 6pm-2am, free b4 8pm, £6 b4 11 pm and £8 after |
|
LIVE: Iman (pic) DECKS: Patrick Forge, Phil Asher LADIES FIRST: Sasha Field
Today jazzy r&b vocalist Iman headlines. Her new release 'Who Was I Trying To Fool?' out is now on Gilles Peterson's compilation: 'Brownswood Bubblers' and in December she won the The National Music Awards. Also hear Patrick and Phil play the most diverse and soulful music around. |
| Saturday 24.03: afternoon: ROTA: 4pm-8pm, free |
|
|
WITH: I Shot The Deputy Showcase with Swimsuit Issue, The Sailplanes (pic), The Cathode Ray Syndrome + iShotTheDeputy DJs
Swimsuit Issue have just a new track out on Filthy Little Angels. With influences from Sonic Youth to My Bloody Valentine expect a ravishing performance. The Sailplanes provide some much needed substance and visceral guitar thrills. They are a riotous, string-scraping caper of discord and disarray with songs shot through and through with melody and might. Also playing are The Cathode Ray Syndrome, and, as this a iShotTheDeputyshowcase, there will be a couple of website honchos in hand tospin their favoured records. For more on RoTa click here |
Saturday 24.03 eve: FUTURO FLAMENCO 8pm-2am, £6 till 11pm and £8 after |
|
WITH: guest DJ Stevie 'Esteban', resident John Armstrong (pic), flamenco club dancer Ana Caton and belly dancer Alessandra
'What a night we had at Futuro Flamenco on Saturday 24 February! As well as several sets from resident DJ John Armstrong, and a great dance performance from ace nu-flamenco dancer Ana Caton, the amazing DJ Floro - exclusive and direct from Madrid - played a couple of the strongest flamenco/arabic/gypsy sets we've heard for a while. Later in the night, the debut from our crazy new belly-dancer Alessandra (from Brazil via Italy) got us all jealous - all our crowd suddenly wanted to have their photos taken with her on a seething stage while we skulked around in the background. When we finally wound up at 2, the place was still rammed. Thanks to all for making it a memorable night - and Floro will be back before long - promise.
John, Ana and Alessandra will, of course, be back, but this time they'll be joined by DJ Stevie 'Esteban' for a much-anticipated debut guest spot. One of the founder members of the DJ collectives Que Rico and Mas Rico, Stevie can currently be found at The End (Holborn/Covent Garden) on monthly Thursdays, where his mixed-gay latin party 'Latin Connection Discoteca' has gone from strength to strength in the last few months. Expect a heady mix of new flamenco beats, mestizo mash-ups and latino hip hop - and a special, newly-choreographed dance show from Ana around 10pm-ish. |
Sunday 25.03: UNDERDOG 4pm - 1am, free before 6pm, £6 after |
|
WITH: Jay Hannan (pic) and guests
Jay Hannan's monthly Sunday house destination for all things deep and funky is upon us again. Possibly London's most underground club, Underdog has become a West London cornerstone for people who want a warm friendly atmosphere that accompanies an electrified soundtrack of the lushest Deep and Electronic House music. But don't be fooled, this night covers all aspects of dance music!
From 4pm through to 6pm it's a chilled atmosphere with people reading the "Sunday's" and maybe playing one of many the bar games available (the staff are more than happy to oblige). Then the night lifts OFF!! And you'd be hard pressed to find a calm pair of legs in the house! |
| Tuesday 27.03: KILL ALL DRUMMERS
6pm-2am, free before 8pm, £5 after |
|
LIVE: Party Sausage & I Will Shank U 4 A Penny, The Moths, Frank Musik (pic), The Fucks!, IJO DECKS: Airhammer, Lessergods
Kill All Drummers is a unique Club night promoting some of the most inventive and forward thinking underground electronic musicians and drum machine bands/artists in the UK. Every Act is an Electro Mash Up between Human and Machine, pushing the currently acceptable levels of engagement between the two. |
Wednesday 28.03: DEATH DISCO 6pm-2am, free before 8pm and £7 after |
|
DECKS: Alan McGee, Dan Devine, Chris Waks LIVE: Agent X, Sourya (pic), The Priory
Death Disco has seen some incredible guest. In Danny and Alan's words: "Maybe The Guardian summed some of the clientele best by saying it is ...a haven for indie celebs and punk veterans. However we consider the place to enjoy yourself.
Paris based 3-piece Sourya play an odd mix of electro-rock, melancholic New Order like songs with Hendrix-ish guitar and cool vocals. | | |
