British soul singer and songwriter Joss Stone first emerged on the music scene in 2003 as an artist with what the New York Post described as a "rich, deep, soulful belt." Mesmerizing audiences first on record with her debut album of obscure covers, The Soul Sessions, and afterwards with a live tour, Stone took over hearts as a preternaturally gifted 16-year old. At the end of her tour she recorded Mind, Body & Soul, her first album of original material, which garnered her three Grammy Awards nominations. Her album sales topped an impressive 7 million albums worldwide. And just recently, together with Van Hunt, Sly & the Family Stone and John Legend, she won Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group for "Family Affair" at this year's Grammys.
Her new album, Introducing Joss Stone, is an electrifying mix of warm vintage soul, 70s-style R&B, and Motown girl-group harmonies that expands her sound further with hip-hop grooves. Produced by Raphael Saadiq (of Tony! Toni! Tone! and Lucy Pearl fame and known for his work with D'Angelo, The Roots, and Macy Gray as a producer), every note on the album is infused with Stone's love for the gift of song. Choice cuts include, "Music," a track, originally inspired by a Fugees song, which coincidentally features a rap by Lauryn Hill; the sweet and dreamy "Tell Me What We're Going To Do Now," featuring guest rapper Common; and the super-funky first single "Tell Me 'Bout It." Stone describes her album as "truly me. That's why I'm calling it Introducing Joss Stone. These are my words and this is who I am as an artist." Check Joss Stone out online or in flesh when the soulstress tours the US starting April 27.
