LIVE: Shameless, Isk, Vote Show Pony (pic) DECKS: residents Seb Chew, Leo Greenslade
Resident DJs Seb Chew and Leo Greenslade's block party mix of 80's boogie, upfront hip hop, hard funky mash-ups and RnB rarities has made YOYO one of the best hip hop parties around.
It may surprise you to hear that Vote Show Pony was not actually christened Vote Show Pony. She was born Sorcha Hawkins and her alter ego was born one summer festival weekend. After arriving back in London from the festival, Sorcha decided she would prance and gallop and make fabulous music. |
Friday 30.03: INSPIRATION INFORMATION 6pm-2am, free b4 8pm, £6 b4 11 pm and £8 after |
|
LIVE: Part Time Heroes DECKS: Patrick Forge, Phil Asher LADIES FIRST: Katie Barber (pic)
Every Friday night Inspiration Information rolls out a selection of quality music, from Disco to Latin. Residents Phil Asher and Patrick Forge are still holding down the most diverse and soulful musical agenda in London town. The early evening session kicks off at 6pm with an all female DJ roster, Ladies First, bringing new energy to the mix.
Katie Barber has been collecting records as long as she can remember. One of her earliest influences was her mother who herself was a DJ during the 60's, playing at soul clubs in and around her hometown of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Katie played at the Gold Bar in Soho and secured a monthly residency via a Dorado Records night at The Glow Rooms in Camberwell. Although gaining recognition as a House DJ, playing at Inspiration Information gives her the opportunity to play music from across the board and a chance to represent her tastes more fully, playing Jazz, Latin, Hip Hop, Broken Beat, Disco and Funk. |
| Saturday 31.03: afternoon: ROTA: 4pm-8pm, free |
|
WITH: The Artisans, Neimo(pic), Popklub Arsenal (all live) plus DJs Lucifer Corn Beef, Silvery, Mardous Cool Shades Brigade
Originally from the surrounding London areas The Artisans were formed on a summers day in Sydney Australia. Dodger Danny and Lewis drank cheap booze wrapped in brown paper bags which was to set the standard for the next 6 months. Now back in the UK they have big hopes for the future. Neimo feel close to a diverse lot of folk, namelyThe Strokes, The Rakes, The Futureheads, Gin Palace, Autechre, Alvin Lucier... It's because Popklub Arsenal were bored, and had nothing else to do. There's a light and a guitar, less and a bit more to confess. Blood on the leaves and blood on the roots, silk around the wrist and ribbon from the gifts. A chinese singer in a pub and a man with a cunt. God that was a mess, and that's where we came from... for more on RoTa click here |
Saturday 31.03 eve: MOVIMIENTO 8pm-2am, £6 till 11pm and £8 after |
|
WITH:Movimientos DJs Arias Y Springfield, DJ Max Reinhardt (pic), plus live Afro-Colombian percussive ensemble
After blazing a trail in a guest spot at Future World Funk last year Movimientos' DJs Arias Y Springfield dive in to a melting pot of insanely infectious Musica Meztiza, with sounds rooted in social activism and Latin culture worldwide. From Folkloric Cumbia, Ska Gitana, & sidestepping Afro-Colombian rhythms to Cuban & West African Rumba, Barcelona Raval beats, and Eastern flavoured Latin fusions. And of course Nu-Yorican beats and underground Reggaeton jams from NY and Puerto Rico, plus the finest selection of beats from the UK's own Latin diaspora. Joining them tonight guest DJ Max Reinhardt long standing supporter of Movimientos and no stranger to the Arts Club himself. Plus live Afro-Colombian percussive ensemble. |
Sunday 01.04: REVELATIONS BOOK OF SOUL 6pm - 1am, £5 |
|
LIVE: VinnyVinny, Stuart Bruce, Steve Holbrook, The Revelations (pic) DECKS: Alan McGee, Crazy Dancer DJs, DJ Paul MTV, DJ Lo
The Revelations Book of Soul in Notting Hill has quickly become the best place to celebrate the end of the weekend for pop lovers and pop stars alike - and if you don't believe us then just ask The Killers or Stereophonics or Cast, who've all been down in recent months. Or Brett Anderson and Suede who played a secret support gig this month. Or perhaps ask Creation Records legend Alan McGee who loves the night so much he's now the resident DJ. So what makes it so great? Purely and simply it's the crowd it pulls and every one of them comes for the same reason: uplifting, timeless pop music. Amongst many more, you'll hear The Revelations performing a special set including their Radio Airplay hit single "If I Called You On The Telephone"
Dusty, Dexys, Bowie, The Jam, Temptations, Box Tops, Supremes, Clash, Stevie Wonder, and Outkast are all guaranteed a spin at some stage during the evening but the real highlights are provided by the Live bands. So, don't be a fool - Join The Revelations on April 1st - The girls are delighted to have the following bands joining them on stage during the course of the evening, VinnyVinny, Stuart Bruce, Steve Holbrook and The Revelations. Meanwhile over on the decks we have, as always, Alan McGee alongside, the boys from Crazy Dancer, DJ Paul MTV and DJ Lo. |
Monday 02.04: SPILLED INK 6pm-2am, free before 8pm and £5 after |
|
LIVE: Stjarna, Buddah Cakes (pic), Dog Bones DECKS: Dr Goose
Spilled Ink, a shared love of all things written, a chance to express yourself without prejudice. Join us and witness real undiluted creativity, a crazy assortment of musical mayhem and best of all the absinthe library. Live we have Stjarna, Buddah Cakes and Dog Bones. Tuesday 03.04: SWEET MEMORY SOUNDS 6pm-2am, free before 8pm and £5 after |
|
DECKS: DJ Derek (pic), Tom Murray, Adam Callan LIVE: Vizion, Rough Edge Quartet
If for any reason your still not familiar with the phenomenon that is DJ Derek, then here are the basics - the rest you get when you come and see him! DJ Derek is the man every roots, rock, reggae, soul and funk enthusiast is talking about. A 64 year old DJ with the best records you've heard and a knack for taking Tuesday nights places it ain't ever been. This is is original London residency and in our third year we are still proud to present this living legend from Bristol, a man who Massive Attach cite as a major influence but who has also been a chocolate factory accountant and is now back on the decks bringing the Island to Nottinghill.
The 'Rough Edge Quartet' offers an earthly sound with an edge. Their music is a special blend of swinging dub-dance, skanking reggae, jazz tipped funk, and afro-beat grooves. The Rough Edge Quartet's live show is second to none, and gets people dancing from the word go, and thats the way we like it. There's always room for some improvisation to keep the sparky fresh . Vizion is the most exciting band to come out of the UK for a long time. World class musicianship, songwriting, production and a devastating live show ensure that everybody's talking about them. Fans of many styles of music andfrom all walk of life cant get enough of the bands uplifting melodies, irresistible grooves, lyrical message and exhilarating performance. |
