Looks like we're not the only
ones at IDMW.com saying that the system can't work the way it currently does.
Remember our Miami thang called last week some DJ fucked my life on which we was
talking about the attitude(s) of a part of the scene facing the press and those
promos we was supposed to be given that we was finding finally at the local
record store ??? Henk at Dutch label 4lux has some complementary story
about this, from a record label perspective and that's nuttin' WE may be proud
of...
Hello friends !
Please take a moment to read
! This is something that applies to all of us in the music industry.
Today, I was really surprised
to get an email from someone stating he’d just bought a promo of our upcoming
Cool, Calm & Collective LP. When I asked him where he got it, he told me he
purchased it in some well-known second hand record shop where lots of DJ’s,
producers, journalists dump their unwanted goods. Our promo-pool isn’t that big
and we consider merely everybody on our list as good friends and/or someone we
really admire, someone with whom we enthousiastically want to share our music.
Therefore, it’s quite embarrassing to hear that someone got a release of ours
this way even 2 months before its official release date…
We are very proud of what we
are doing and we put lots of love and energy into our product. If we’d wanted to
make a quick buck, we certainly wouldn’t have started 4lux Recordings. We all
know these are hard times in the bizz & that there’s lot of illegal downloading
and stuff, that’s why we gotta stick together.
I am well aware of the fact
that we cannot please everybody with our music. Gerd always ironically says to
me: “There always are more people who dislike your music than the other way
around, otherwise I would have been driving a fancy car and living in a million
dollar house.” And how true that is ?
I don’t have problems with
someone who sells vinyl that was given to us by them BUT I think people have to
be decent enough to at least wait until our stuff is released through official
channels before they discharge promos like this. It really shows disrespect to
us putting so much time and effort into promoting our stuff. It basically ruins
all the work we did and makes our promotion work useless.
Just felt like sharing this
with you all since most of you run a label yourself and/or are promoting music
in their own honest way.
Be good !
Henk (4lux
Recordings)
