NRK Music present...Unreleased Projects
NRK has had yet another prolific 12 months in the house scene, and Part One of the Unreleased Projects series yields some great remixes and alternate versions that never made it out first time round. Part One leans towards the soulful house axis of NRK’s output, and leading names such as Kerri Chandler, Miguel Migs and Trackheadz head up this tasty double pack.

Featuring Kerri Chandler (pictured) himself on vocals, “The Promise” is everything you want out of a modern day house song; delicate pianos, warm pads, Chandler’s trademark swinging and crunchy beats, and a great melody as Kerri works his way around the keyboard. This “Stripped Down Vocal Mix” marries tender lyrics and a soulful yet melancholic delivery to produce a song a cut above the usual garage fare.

Trackheadz “Feel” has been one of those house tracks that has crossed over to the Urban House crowds as well as the traditional deep house heads. NYC’s Mr V (Defected) was first up to remix this, and this no-nonsense Instrumental Remix features gorgeous Rhodes keys, shuffling beats and a melodious analogue bassline.

Also featured on this double pack; the original house sound of Chicago courtesy of Ron Carroll’s stomping piano remix of “Pump Dance”, Kaje’s 2006 Remix of Trackheadz deep house anthem “Our Music” and a previously unreleased Alix Alvarez (SOLE Channel) mix of Miguel Mig’s polished “Mesmerized”.

Coast2Coast heads to Baltimore....presenting DJ Karizma
Coast2Coast has got off to a great start since launching in October 2006, with stella DJ mixes from some of the scenes most revered underground DJs. Step forward Quentin Harris, Kerri Chandler, Ron Trent and Ame, each programming and mixing a no nonsense selection of deep and moving house sounds and electronic beats.

The Coast2Coast series continues this year with a trip to Baltimore, USA. September 07 will see the addition of Karizma to the C2C series, and it's a mix that we are hugely anticipating here at NRK HQ. Karizma is one of the originators of the Baltimore Club sound (dig out ‘The Power EP from 1999 on Black Vinyl) that stunned the music press in 2006 and culminated in the meteoric rise of the rambunctious, hi-energy, Rick Ruben produced combo Spank Rock. Back in 1996, along with Shawn Caesar and Scottie B, he formed Unruly Records and hosted the first local radio show to showcase the genre - Unruly Radio on V103 FM. Also responsible for nurturing Karizma’s unique sound was his involvement in Basement Boys Records, the house production stable headed up by Jay Steinhour, Teddy Douglas and Thomas Davis. He has since recorded and remixes for labels and artists such as Ricanstruction, 83 West, Objektivity, R2, Ben Westbeech, Peven Everett, Blaze, Jon Cutler & many more...

Karizma Coast2Coast is released on September 10th on double CD and 2 X double vinyl LP

Inland Knights remixes of Jamie Anderson - available now
Following on from awesome Radio Slave remix of “Time Is Now”, Nottingham’s deep house dons Inland Knights turn the jack factor up to 11 with a decidedly housier take on the original mix. Fans of the jackin house sound and jocks such as Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak will dig these remixes

Inland Knights have carved out their own sound over the years, with tracks on their own Drop Music label as well as for West Coast labels like Tango, Amenti and Doubledown.  Their remix of “Time Is Now” stays true to their roots, with a crunchy drum groove, well rounded bass and warm stabs n strings.

Miguel Migs in London & Ibiza this week
Miguel Migs
comes back to UK shores this weekend for a rare London DJ appointment in the capital. Miguel will be spinning at London's Turnmills venue for the Noctural crew, run by chartsters The Shapeshifters. Joining Miguel on the night will be Jon Cutler (Distant Music) and Shapeshifters themselves.

Miguel jets into the UK as part of his European tour to promote new album ‘Those Things’. Migs stands at the forefront of electronic music's soulful realm. Whether tackling his original productions or remixes (Macy Gray, Lionel Ritchie etc), he always achieves an organic-soulful sound by combining the best of both the electronic music world and live instrumentation. His impressive discography includes more than 100 original productions and remixes on independent labels such as NRK, Naked Music, Astrelwerks, Yoshitoshi, Om Records and Defected amongst others and he’s also released a number of cult compilations for labels like NRK and Defected. Never one to sit still, Migs started his own label Salted Music in 2004 and continues to deliver some of the freshest sounding grooves around!!

And for those heading over to the White Isle this weekend, Miguel will be spinning at El Divino on Ibiza on Monday 25th June.

Spotlight on.....DJ Deep
Known as one of the most revered members of the French house scene, DJ Deep has made it his duty to share deep house beats with a growing global audience! As a member of the Respect roster of artists, his Respect is Burning parties and CD series has kept listeners on the pulse of the hot French house scene!

DJ Deep started DJing about 12 years ago. At the time House music was definitely an underground movement and the French scene was just starting to develop. Laurent Garnier gave DJ Deep his “first chance” to DJ, first at club Boy in Paris for the Oz parties, then at club Le Palace for the Zoo parties. At the same time, DJ Deep started to host his radio show on radio FG 98.2, everyday from noon to 2 PM. A year after he invited his DJ friends, DJ Gregory and DJ Alex from Tokyo to join him and the show was then named “A Deep Groove” where you could hear everything from Mos Def to Jeff Mills, with a true passion for real deep underground House music.

As DJ Deep became a key figure of the Parisian scene he put together “What's Up Mix It” with friends from the label What's up, this compilation featured for the first time together artists such as Dimitri from Paris, DJ Cam, Saint Germain, Gilb'r, and a track of his own “Sweet Summer Vibe”.

In 1995 the famous “Wake up” parties were launched by the French Legend Laurent Garnier at the Rex Club featuring prestigious guests such as Lil’ Louis, Derrick May, DJ Pierre, Ron Trent, Chez Damier, etc. DJ Deep was the resident “warm up” Dj. Soon after DJ Deep moved from radio FG to Radio Nova, for his Saturday night shows (this adventure on Nova lasted for about 5 years!)

In 1997 “the fire” and “the earth” EP’s came out on French label Basenotic under the moniker The Deep, those 12” were produced by Julien Jabre and DJ Deep receiving great support from the likes of Louie Vega and Joe Claussell... 1997 saw the kick of the “Legends” parties at the Rex Club, promoted by DJ Deep with guests like Frankie Feliciano, Joe Claussell, Kerri Chandler, Tommy Musto, JoVonn, Michael Watford, Nick Jones. At the same time DJ Deep was busy travelling around the globe to keep spreading “deep and soulful House music true to the roots”!!!

Distance music released his first mix CD in 1999 “French Sessions”, featuring tracks by Kerri Chandler, Blaze, Ron Trent, Ten City, Joe Claussell, etc. Joining forces with the Respect is Burning team in 2001, the mix CD “Respect to Dj Deep” came out (featuring tracks by Masters At Work, Kerri Chandler, Dino and Terry, etc.), followed up by a worldwide tour...

Deep now currently owns & runs two labels, Deeply Rooted House and House Music Records. Check out his releases today, real house music!!
