Brother Ah & The Sounds Of Awareness “ Key To Nowhere”- Ikef /US
Cosmic righteousness from Brother Ah -- aka Robert Northern -- best known for his work with Sun Ra, but a force behind some wonderfully soulful records of his own! This album's one of Ah's later works -- self-released in 1983, with a conception that's fuller than his earlier works -- almost in an Alice Coltrane spiritual mode, with tracks that emphasize consciousness, healing, well being, and awareness. Ah plays flute and French horn on the album -- and other instrumentation includes percussion by Nasar Abadey and Barbara Burton-Tuten, bass from Mike Bowie, harp and mbiri from Jeff Majors, and guitar from Marvin Tuten. Most tracks are instrumentals -- building in a nice Phil Cohran-ish way -- but a few numbers feature vocals. And titles include "Sekou", "Nature's Blues", "Key To Nowhere", "Hanifah", "Motherless Child", "Celebration", and "The Void". http://www.dustygroove.com

Zimpala have quietly been releasing funky dancefloor shakers for a good few years now, and here they pop up on Gerd’s excellent 4lux label with another tasty outing that comes in a variety of mixes. The original mix is a bubbling jazzy affair with some lush horns and a badass bassline while Kettel's intricate rewiring is all late night melancholy and quietly emotive keys, before Jimpster kicks the 4/4s into gear for those that need them.

The wine tasting sessions 'Wine4Melomanes' is put together by myself and the resident sommelier from the selected wine company , and concerns wines tasted, supplied and chosen by the venue hosting us. This tasting session has its originality by being mixed with a few carefully selected tracks chosen by the DJ for solely hedonistic purposes: preparatory work is needed as soon as the venue is selected to define the rhythm and colour of the event.
