DECKS: DJ Derek (pic), Tom Murray, Adam Callan LIVE: The Fruit Mules, The Scoundrels, Maroon Town
DJ Derek's status as Legend is well deserved. He is now in his mid 60's and at the top of his game. Armed with a Jamaican patois that defies his Bristolian roots and nearly 30,000 ska, reggae, dancehall and soul tracks to choose from, this old man is one of the UK's musical treasures.
The Fruit Mules (presented by LCCM) are the essential band to see in October. They're only playing once, and its here at Sweet Memory Sounds. Between them the members have worked with BB King, Chaka Khan, Paul Weller, Candi Statton, Eric Clapton, Michael McDonald, Zero 7, Carleen Anderson and Beverley Knight. Hold on to your hat, cos its gonna be funky. They are Julian Burdock (guitar), Toby Baker (Keys), Ernie Mckone (bass) and Brian (drums). Thanks to their invlolvement with the LCCM we have been lucky enough to secure them for this date. "The Fruit Mules serve up an Autumnal compote of rootsy funk with a hint of blues guitar majesty". The NHAC favourites The Scoundrels are back again for another rock-ska-funk-blues explosion. Grab your dancing shoes, lock your daughters up (Ned Wyndham is in the band aka Mr.C) and take Wednesday off work as Tuesday gets taken places its never been. Maroon Town are a vital and exiting band which combines breakbeat, ska, rap and dub in a high energy musical fusion - this is their long awaited return to the fore. celebrating a new release, make sure you dont miss this! LCCM is one of Europe's leading contemporary music schools - with an ethos of providing a musical education based on ideas relevant to the industry in the present time. The college will be providing the opening act and has helped to secure the booking.
