Chico Mann dropped a beautiful African inspired instrumental remix on 'The Naciente Quartet's' 'Hymn Beat' just out on the label 'The Hooter Listens'. The Naciente Quartet: All musically active in their own rights, together as the Quartet, they fuse post rock and some far more uncatagorisble styles of music – creating an impressive and altogether charming sound. A big favorite of the label’s curator since they first took to performing around 2003, the sunshine tinged Hymn Beat is a track that really got the Hooter twitching one evening at the legendary Spitz Club, London. It’s from that moment that this release was born. Chico Mann (Kindred Spirits) AKA Marcos Garcia (Antibalas) offers up a wonderful interpretation of the track that he dedicates to Ellegua (the mythical Caribbean deity who ‘opens the ways’). Although undoubtedly Chico, it’s quite a different sound compared to his previous production outings – rolling in like some classic Stereolab then taking off into an Afro-Cuban version of space, sponsored by Casio…kind of. Let us introduce to you a new big Dutch talent: La Melodia consists of female MC Melodee and producer & DJ I.N.T. This duo stands for warm, soulful but also raw hiphop music from Dutch soil. Raised in 2004 La Melodia independently released their first 12" vinyl single Dough / For You. With Rush Hour on the distribution it winded up in Japan where it was picked up by a Japanese label called Handcuts Records. A recorddeal followed and in December 2006 La Melodia’s debutalbum “Vibing High” was released in Japan. 10 months later this album is released on PIAS and is now finally available in major & exclusive recordshops the Benelux. Vibing High is an organic work of raw beats, bossa nova and warm soulmusic – with hiphop as a groundbase. Music is all about vibe and feel' is the main thought behind this album on which Melodee talks about growing up in The South, her love for music and more.
