MONK ONE
(WAX POETICS MAGAZINE, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK) PLUS RESIDENT AL KENT AND BACKUP FROM MrB, BEN TURNER, CAROLINE HUNT AND GEOFF BOWLING
We're getting very excited about THIS FRIDAY! Monk One's coming, and is sure to pick up where Kon left off back in August.. The balloons have been ordered, re-edits are under-way, and the backroom DJs are comparing rare groove notes... Northern Disco's been recommended as one of the top nights in the north this weekend in the Guardian. We won't argue with that!

Got some spares to shift, reply if any interest you... All US originals in at least Ex condition unless stated Paypal prefered, but cards are good too if need be. Or cheque etc...
DEBBIE TRUSTY - SEARCHING FOR SOME LOVING - WEST END - £10
Essential West End Electro/boogie. Big 331/3rd Queen sample
GOLDIE ALEXANDER - SHOW YOU MY LOVE - CHAZ RO - SOLD
NOVELLA EDMONDS - HOT STUFF - WILLPOWER - £10
Camp uptempo disco. Not for homophobes.
SALSOUL ORCHESTRA - SALSOUL RAINBOW/RUNAWAY - DANNY KRIVIT EDITS!! SALSOUL/UNIDISC - £20
7:55 Krivit edit of Salsoul Rainbow, where he takes out all the best bits and loops up the other bits. Actually really hard to find.
NEW YORK CITI PEACH BOYS - LIFE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL - ISLAND - £15
THP ORCHESTRA - TWO HOT FOR LOVE - BUTTERFLY - £15
Big David Mancuso favourite. Goes on for fifteen minutes. Could do with being edited down to seven.
DONNA MCGHEE - YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME - COBAGO - £20
Very "now" sounding record. Greg Wilson would approve.
NCCU - SUPER TRICK - UA - £10
It's Donald Byrd on a 1977 12" single. So it's jazzy funky disco.
DC LARUE - CATHEDRALS - PYRAMID - SOLD
THE WHATNAUTS - HELP IS ON THE WAY - HARLEM INTERNATIONAL - SOLD
OTIS WILLIAMS - I LOVE THE WAY YOU LOVE ME - DELMAR - £15
Nice soulful boogie with instrumental and moog line. Bit of a classic.
TRAMMPS - WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MUSIC - PHILLY SOUND WORKS - £10
Later release from Vince Montanna, but with Earl Young on drums you can't go wrong. And there's an accapella.
TS MONK - CANDIDATE FOR LOVE - MIRAGE - SOLD
LUTHER - IT'S GOOD FOR THE SOUL - COTILLION - £30
Modern/northern classic from Mr Vandross. Hard on 12"
BILL WITHERS - YOU GOT THE STUFF COLUMBIA - £30
As funky as Mr Withers gets. hard to find on promo only 12"
VANCE & SUZANNE - I CAN'T GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU - VANTON - SOLD
SKYLITE - BOOGIE BUTT/SMILE - RAMPART - £20
Boogie Butt is slowed down boogiedisco while Smile is uptempo discoboogie. It's good. And the vinyl's blue and white.
THE SPARKLES - TRYING TO GET OVER - SMALL AXE - SOLD
GINO DENTIE - DIRECT DISCO - CRYSTAL CLEAR - £30
Mucho popular straight to disc studio experiment with killer version of Movin plus five other goodies.
GLOSTER WILLIAMS - PRAYING SPIRIT - LA - SOLD
MOTHER'S FINEST - DIS GO DIS WAY, DIS GO DAT WAY - EPIC - £10
Bargain price for this thinly veiled attempt by rockers to make a disco record without their fans noticing. Slightly scuffed, but plays fine.
CURTIS MAYFIELD - NO GOODBYES - CURTOM - £10
It's Curtis Mayfield, so it's gotta be good. It ain't no 'Move On Up'. But it's got a breakdown. On both sides.
DONNA SUMMER - I FEEL LOVE - CASABLANCA - £10
Always popular UK fifteen minute mix from Patrick Cowley. Very trippy. Just please don't play it when I'm around.
ELITE - ROCK THE HOUSE - DAKAR - £10
Discofunk. That's it.
CANDI STATON - WHEN YOU WAKE UP TOMORROW - WB - £20
Everyone loves a bit of Candi. Written by Patrick, produced and mixed by Jimmy.
SPIDERS WEBB - I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND - FANTASY - £15
Promo only, on the same label as 'Over & Over' with a similar sleeve. Not as good though.
HARRY THUMANN - UNDERWATER - DECCA - £10
The perfect record to follow 'I Feel Love'. Cosmic.
PROJECT - LOVE RESCUE - PBI - £15
It's boogie. With a rap in the middle. And a bit that's really loud to give you a fright.
VENUS DODSON - NIGHT RIDER - WB - £10
Produced by Patrick Adams. Murdered by Jim Burgess. Only joking. Sounds good topless.
LEFTURNO - OUT OF SIGHT - ASCOT - £10
Looks like Peter Brown, sounds like Greg Wilson. Perfect for now. Instrumental is dubby electro that the kids will love.
DIRECT DRIVE - TIME'S RUNNING OUT - OVAL - £15
Alledgedly Paul Hardcastle's first production. Kind of like Imagination playing fast.
LENNY WELCH - YOU PICKED A FINE TIME - BIG APPLE - £10
Nice boogie with instrumental.
ALTON McCLAIN - IT MUST BE LOVE - POLYDOR - £40
Surprisingly good for a Jim Burgess mix. More of a UK Weekender sound than a seedy topless NY sound.
SPACESETTERS ORCHESTRA - FRANKIE & JOHNNIE - MARIANNE - £10
Overlooked John Davis release. Typical of his style.
BETTY GOLD - TONIGHT - MASTER MIX - £10
Produced by Began Cekic, mixed by M&M. I have no doubt this is cosmic.
GINO SOCCIO - DANCER - WB - £10
UK copy. DJ's love it cos it's easy to mix. Others love it because it's cheap. I don't love it at all.
FRANCE JOLI - GONNA GET OVER YOU - PRELUDE - £10
Instrumental is nice laid back soul music. Vocal's alright too.
POINTER SISTERS - HAPPINESS - PLANET - £10
Bit of a stompin gospelly thing. Always hits the spot on the dancefloor. And if you're clever you can do a good edit of it too. Oh, and the vinyl's red.
LOVERDE - IKO IKO - PRISM - £10
Surprisingly good version of this stupid song. Lot's of cosmic bits if you're scared of the vocal. Greg Wilson should play this.

Don't forget, we still have music on CD and MP3...
