3°GLOBAL:
THE… COMMUNITY PEOPLE
|
In this world where the principle of sharing remains sadly far more the prerogative of unresponsible people incl. DJ’s and eventually producers (they know who they are!!!) exchanging pieces of work which aren’t theirs and therefore f****** an already fragilized economy, 1999-born 3° Global stands as a wonderful example as to what individuals, although bein’ left the total freedom to run their own businesses, are capable of when comin’ to join their talents under the same banner. Straight to the point with Julius the Mad Thinker…
Hey mThinker, sup my brother? Looks like you’re pretty much on the roll this year, both as a DJ/producer/artist and also as a part of the 3° Global posse. Give us a little reminder as to what it is if U don’t mind…
3° Global (pronounced "three degrees global") is a global network of friends, connected by a shared love of soulful house music. Whether it be through producing or hosting events, dinner gatherings, or interacting through the web community, the organization is dedicated to providing forums where it’s members can naturally innovate, cultivate, and share each other’s creativity while completely acknowledging humanity…
You’re among those very rare to date workin’ on a communitarian way alongside people such as Monna and FLX to name a few. Did you see this as an absolute necessity back then?
Yes. At the time 3Degrees Global started (1999), I believe the scene was very much in need of unity. There wasn’t a particular club, organization, or crew that really strived to bring everyone together.
Pretty much looks like your obstinacy along the years has finally been paying, judging by the progressive recognition of your savoir faire. Have you however happened to go thru periods of doubt ?
I feel that this industry has always been like a roller-coaster. It’s a series of ups and downs. However, we believe the bigger the breakdown, the bigger the possibility. Through this philosophy, we have sustained producing quality events while expanding membership yet keeping the same cohesive vibe.
We all know how it’s a tough work makin’ oneself a name, not to say reachin’ a status allowing to make oneself a living, on top of it on the quite chaotic environnement which has been ours for quite some time. So what has kept your faith alive since day 1?
As long as producers continue to create music that blows me away, I will continue to be equally excited and honored to present it. In addition, I separate the business of marketing my name from my love of the music.
We heard you delivering spoken words on the recent ‘Many Questions’ alongside Abicah Soul which to me stands as one if not THE piece of music so far for 2008. Looks like you have a whole bunch of new material ready to be unleashed in the comin’ daze/weeks. You’ve been elected under the 3° Global banner to host the King Street’s 15th B-day celebration in Miami. You’ve also talked to me about your growing liaison with 1club.FM… When do you have time for rest then?
Lol! I really don’t think about it, I work out 4-5 days a week to keep myself in good shape. However, as a group we all take on different tasks. My partner Ed Dunn (3Degrees Global, NYC) has done an excellent job managing the King Street event.
Is it to say that you also would add your voice to the ones of those for which 2008 is most likely to mark substancial changes?
Although 2008 will be a good year for me, I believe it twill take a good year for my music and video productions to make an impact. 2008 is the year of production. My goal is to complete thirty songs and four music videos. Meeting this goal will help create demand for my services.
Seems like there’s some heavy need of networking not to say syndication. Would you see this as signs of the time or some legitimate reaction after so many years spent in a relative loneliness for a whole bunch of people???
I believe networking has always been the name of the game. Those who can perfect it will excell much quicker.
Time has come to face the circumstancial thema: Miami with its unevitable question in regards to its evolution with more and more people wondering about its necessity from a year to another. At last as far as our (little) community is concerned…
I believe Miami, along with most other conferences such as MIDEM, and Sonar, are necessary. They are vehicles for networking, promoting, liscensing, learning, producing, advertising, and marketing, while energizing the culture. Nevertheless, it is truly up to each individual on how to make the most of their opportunites.
