DJ ROMAIN
Empire Of Africa
(Nu Faze/Advance) |
What is existence if not the result of a continuous absorbtion process of food – be it purely material as spiritual, from images to aural vibrations, smellings and the likes – which each of us recycles his/her own way ? One of the most obvious illustrations being given by the contemporary art with the help of technology. And that’s pretty much what happened to NYC based DJ Romain, while embedding on this cut the vibrant voice of some anonymous African teenager taken from the Phillipe Diaz 2006 released documentary The Empire In Africa, depicting the atrocities in Sierra Leone. But also cleverly incorporating a whole bunch of characteristic elements or should I say effects which would give shape to the said electronically made music over those two last decades. From that post-acidic synth line goin’ bleepy on occasions to trancey patterns in addition to Afro tribal percussions. With the whole affair definitely sounding like a massive upside down big bang ready to take the dancefloors by absolute storm.MFSB
