Suggested to shoot a ‘groovy’ remake of famous 70’s TV series the Happy Days happening at the beginning of 90’s, I then guess a film director wouldn’t have that many choices in terms of ideal locations. In Detroit, this would be most likely at the Institute. In Chicago, at the Warehouse. Meanwhile, in the NYC area – sorry, in Jerzee – this would be at the Zanzibar. Quite strange though how this club made famous by Tony Humphries remains quite underrated in today’s collective memory as opposed to the Paradise Garage or Body & Soul, despite the countless artists he’s championed at the time… And I would even say that filing the music he played back then as… ‘garage’ stands far as the lesser paradox! As a matter of fact and although Kevin Hedge didn’t agree when we recently spoke about that matter, many artists back then from Charvoni, Sybil, Taravonthy, Adeva and the likes would talk about Jersey Sound with Humphries sayin’ it could have become the Motown of the 90’s! Meanwhile, a young producer was quickly to make himself a name: Kerri Chandler with this infectious rough groove to be considered as one of all time classics. MFSB
