As earlier said by Compost Records CEO Michael Reinboth,
the best answer given to the critical situation that the record industry is
facing nowadays in terms of sales is nothing but putting out quality music.
Another illustration being given with the release of the critically
acclaimed Intuit's debut LP displaying some true pieces of
organic groove from brazilian vibes to soul, funk, Afro beat (and even classic)
with the x-tra help of legendary names such as Flora Purim, Airto
Moreira, Andy Bey and Ray Obiedo to name but a few. Elements
of response from this German pair comprizing Thomas Braun & Till
Maragnoli…
Quality, as said by Michael, is certainly the first word that comes to mind
when listening to this impressive album. How long did it take to do it ?
We built up our studio 6 years ago, than we made our first sessions, so you
can say the album took about 3-4 years in the making.
The key words for you to that are synonymous with quality ?
We always felt that our music has to sound naturally and organic, so we
needed a lot of musicians and singers to realize our project. Our intention is
that we can hear our music in years without being ashamed of it.
What has been your aim when conceiving this album ?
We never conceived the album. We just played and recorded the music we love.
So after all the music was done, we compiled the songs like a good
compilation.
Freiburg-Im-Breisgau is definitely not the first city we may think of in
terms of Afro beat. What does Afro beat suggest to you ?
We've always loved African music, especially Afro beat. We've also played
together in Afro bands. Afro-beat combines North American funk and jazz with
African poly-rhythms, so that’s exactly our thing.
Your background ?
Over 25 years in music making, we have played in bands of all kind of
styles.
Your influences ?
The music you would hear in our album (jazz/funk & soul/ Afro/ Brazil) but
also any other music from classical to punk, as long as it’s GOOD music.
Your heroes ?
This is a very difficult question to answer in a short way. We have some “heroes”,
in every kind of musical style and some of them happen to be amongst our guests
on this album…
You look like having been very much careful in the choice of your guests,
including some people we hadn't heard of for an eternity. Has it been hard to
reach them, then convince them to be a part of this project ?
It was not as hard as one may think. We contacted them via their management;
send away the demo versions of the songs and the sheet music and all of them
gave us a positive feedback.

Thereafter a few extra names that may come to mind when listening to your
music. Your comments… Koop ?
Nice label mates, we love their music.
Ramsey Lewis ?
Yes, we love Ramsey. Favourite Album : 'Salongo'.
Erik Satie ?
There is something in the “Hard Night’s Day Reprise” reminding on Satie.
Incognito ?
Yes, but more of the Earth, Wind & Fire thing !
Terry Callier ?
A great Singer, musician and composer, like Andy Bey.
Roy Ayers ?
One of our “heroes”, some voicings remind of him.
Tony Allen?
For sure… “Fenytola” is a tribute to him & Fela !
Freddie Hubbard ?
A Key player on trumpet & flugelhorn. Some of his CTI & Columbia mid- 70’s
stuff is in the same vein as songs of our release.
So many key people united on this project. Looks somehow like a reminder of
what Nuyorican Soul have done ? Don't you fear having the same difficulties to
promote it due to the big amount of guests, while on stage ?
We will play some live gigs with most of the musicians and singers from our
album, but we know it will be very expensive.
Do you DJ as well ?
Till was a DJ in the 80’s/beginning of 90’s, but will not do it anymore.
Haven't heard from you so far remixwise. Any project in the pipeline ?
Yes, some projects in the pipeline but we have to take time for that.
