Get ready for some more from our own MFSB
in the weeks to come as 2004 marks his 30th year… in da mix ! No less that three
decades that saw him spinning from Europe to America and Africa, championning
the various colours of the groove.
What you're gonna get on this section is a
series of numerized mixtapes that he's done throughout the years, should it be
early house, R&B, disco, downtempo, soul funk and the likes…
Another of those selections recorded by
MFSB in 1988 that trully demonstrates the versatility of a period where you
could hear both early house - should it be deep, acid or mixed with hip hop (the
so called hip house movement with people like Tyree Cooper, DJ Fast
Eddie and Mr Lee to name but a few), R&B, Brit soul and what would
soon become Eurodance following the footsteps of Technotronic, Black
Box and Snap, not to mention those first techno incursions from
Kevin Saunderson's outfit Inner City… All of that being considered at
the time as dance music on its own.
This mixtape # 05 gives us the
opportunity to pay a tribute to the late David Cole from the Cole &
Clivilles clan that would produce a big amount of house hits under the most
notoriously known C&C Music Factory banner fro a whole bunch of various
artists from Natalie Cole (cf. "Pink Cadillac") to 2 Puerto Rican, A
Blackman & A Dominican, not to mention that opener with The 28th St. Crew.
That summer 88 marked a crucial point for Europe putting both Italy's Black
Box and Belgian outfit Technotronic on the international map.
Meanwhile, Frankie Knuckles was introducing what would become a new
member in the Def Mix clan (alongside David Morales) with Japanese new
comer Satoshi Tomiie, with the reinforcement of Mr Fingers
vocalist Robert Owens on the plaintive "Tears". Also on display here a
bit of hip house with DJ Fast Eddie and, to a lesser extend, some track
that stands as a document in this form : the kings of triple X-rated rap The
2 Live Crew with what would become a banned remix of their classic "We Want
Some Pussy" as remixed by Berlin's West Bam. Also providing you with a
rare remix of Coldcut featuring Lisa Stansfield's classic "People (Hold
On)" then another effort from Detroit techno originators Inner City. What
a year, indeed !
