The Mast (Love Will Be Strong)
Players

UK has always had a strong tradition of live
musicianship although not necessarily reknown the way it should. After a well
deserved welcome by people from Mr Scruff to Gilles Peterson and
MAW following the release of their "Wesley Music" which would eventually
get some re-edit work by Danny Krivit, this three 20 something's men
production outfit hailing from the suburbs of Manchester get back on their own
Players label with this absolute monster jam. Surrounded by a whole bunch of
musicians playing trumpet, rhodes, bass, percussions and anything else they can
grab, not to mention vocalists (Julie E Gordon and Summerseat MVC),
Chas Morrison, Martin Almond and Jo Botham bring us back to
the epicenter of Nu Yorican/Latin-edged musicianship, following the footsteps of
folks like Incognito, Mitch & Dewburry and Mr Hermano to
name but a few. No doubt, "The Mast" is an outstanding work, if not one of those
rare life-changing songs you may have a listen to on a whole existence.
Meanwhile, the B-side is a minimal Afrotribal syncopated version of their
"Wesley Music" classic. MFSB
