Against
all odds, South East of French Riviera harbour Toulon is to be the world capital
of house music for its third year, starting from 07/09 to 07/11, welcoming
amongst others Kerri Chandler, DJ Spinna and DJ Grégory +
live performances from Savannah to Soldiers Of Twilight to name
but a few. Enuff reasons to give you an overview of this unique event, prior
sending you regular reports the way we've already done this year with the Miami
WMC'…
Loads have
been said here and there about that relatively young event, starting from its
own nature (strictly dedicated to – genuine - house music as opposed to many
others of the likes), its location (in a city – Toulon - far from being
glamourous) and its potential future. Well, although many things remain to be
done, we'd rather thank the people who while launching its first edition 2 years
ago, have given birth to an event with no equivalent in the world.
Those who've
experienced it would know what I'm talking about when saying that launching a
new event is never an easy thing. So simply imagine the way this can be in a
country like France where the first names that would come to people's minds in
terms of house music are those of David Guetta, Antoine Clamaran
or DJ Rien ; Rien incidentally meaning 'nothing' in French ! In a country
where
the global bakground is made of post rock and that usual commercial sh***, when
not local French sung mainstream !!! Well the Sunslice Festival
originators would do it in 2002 for the very first time, they've done in 2003
and they're still around this year, obviously with more experience. We were
probably too ambitious the first year, remembers Sunslice Festival
CEO, Jean Chiche who also owns local venue Le Bar A Thym best remembered
for welcoming memorable after (festival) parties. As a matter of fact, two
different stages had ended up being a sort of too much at the period, not to
mention the opening time with an allowance from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am, thus
resulting in modifications along the time. We hopefully have kept La Tour
Royale (an old construction dating from the XVIIIth century) as our main
venue, which is more intimate and convenient, but also Le Bar A Thym for the
after parties where everything may happen seing DJ's doing impromptu collabs
mixwise, following the footsteps Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer and
MFSB who would end up spinning altogether the first year, transforming
the center stage into a block party craziness alongside live percussionnists
from Cuba and Playin' For The City Sax player. Unforgettable,
enthuses former Le Bar A Thym resident DJ Bool. This intimacy and
brotherhood between our guests is the thing that has given shape to the Festival
and makes it so unique. A reality that would easily confirm all of those
who've experienced it from Blaze to JoVonn and local face, DJ
Titou who happens to be the new resident at Le Bar A Thym. Not to mention
Kerri Chandler who's gonna be there for his third time in a raw… And as if
it wasn't enuff, we also have chillin beats during the afternoon, living l'Hôtel
de la Tour Blanche poolside sounding like a mini Miami WMC' last year to go by
the sea this year right in front of DJ Bool brand new venue called La
Vague. No doubt, this year should definitely be another one of the likes with
Spinna and Grégory adding their names to the history of the event
with a real space also for live acts each nite.
The Sun is
coming up, once more.
