RUSSELL JONES (Nov.15 1968 – Nov.13 2004)
US hip hop scene misses another son after the
sudden death of Wu-Tang Clan founding member Russell Jones aka
Ol' Dirty Bastard, equally know under the Dirt McGirt moniker. The
controverted artist who would live his life as tough as his lyrics complained of
chest pains before collapsing during a recording session last Saturday at the
Manhattan Studio, said a statement from label Roc-A-Fella Records. He was 35.
ODB who secured having several hit singles on his own was parallely frequently
in trouble with the law. In February 1998, he suddenly took the microphone from
singer Shawn Colvin while she was being given a Grammy Award, obviously
upset over losing the Best Rap Album Grammy to Puff Daddy,
before apologizing later. Then in 2001, he got sentenced to 2 to 4 years in jail
for drug possession plus 2 concurrent years for escaping from a rehabilitation
hospital. He'd been released last year and straight away signed with Roc-A-Fella
Records. O.D.B. would have been 36 yesterday.
