Hmm, I know you're gonna feel much related to the title of this topic – nearly
the same as the famous one that we've posted during the last WMC' in Miami
which, by the way, stands as one of the most read this year here on
IDMW.Com - if not having the impression that I repeat myself. But isn't
that what to be expected, when seing that despite regular remarks, the situation
we tend to criticize outside the community tends to be reproduced inside ?
One house, one nation ! "Stronger Together"… "Fight The Power"… "Promised Land"…
"Get Up Stand Up"… And the list goes on of those noble songs or mottos with a
universal meaning that we've never managed to materialise on our day to day
lives. Easy said, more rarely put into applications as each of us was
necessarily the exception to the rule… C'mon (between you and I), how dare could
we trully believe in this when having a look at ourselves on the mirror ? Let's
stop playing this useless game, as it's definitely not the way life goes ; at
least, properly !
I
fully know how self-protected we gotta manage to be in order to face (if not to
survive in) the situation we're living nowadays, but I'm not too sure about the
way we behave in such a case, living for ourselves but mostly by ourselves at
the end of the day.
A
vaste majority of people is there with the idea of taking of taking credits from
the community and there's nothing to complain about this. But we all have to
know that such a situation can't be a one way thing. In other words, taking
credits means that we also have to pay our tribute to those who contribute to
make each of us a living. Receiving but also giving in the mean time. And when I
say giving, I deeply mean it. Then what do we mostly have as a response ? Egos
developped to an extend which has probably never been reached before instead of
this basic notion of you + me being the sole condition for giving… life !
Course, we may hear many words here and there but what about the acts ? The
commitment ?
Internet full of self proclaimed undeground DJ's having free downloads instead
of buying their necessary amount of vinyls at the record store next door whose
owner, ironically, will be asked to contribute to the promo of their gigs while
welcoming their flyers. DJ Playlists looking more and more like catalogues of
auto-productions with no availability at the current time of print. People
spoiled to death to show their big headz behind the decks, then, all of a
sudden, turning them when fronted to clubbers coming to them with the sole
purpose of showing them simple signs of love ! And I'm not even talking about
this current trend of having their names featuring Jocelyn Brown,
Robert Owens or whoever on their record sleeves (when we're lucky enuff to
have one), as if they were the only ones who've done the music !!!
Hmm, the question is : how long this will last
?
Once again, almost everyone is complaining about the current situation, but once
again what do WE do apart from exploiting the same schemas ??? Having those same
attitudes which have been for much in the way things are (or I'd rather say
aren't) happening nowadays. What do we do when invited to gather at places such
as Miami for instance ? Nuttin' apart from partying and sun tanning all week
long, when solutions need to be found for a better exposure of the scene. This
isn't the fault of this or that segment of the scene ; this is the fault of the
whole community ! Jocks, promoters, journos, radio broadcasters and the kitchen
sink… And we ain't got no excuse in this world of hi-tech communication tools.
The main question remaining : Is this that we want to communicate ?
If not : Do we solely know how to communicate
? MFSB
