DJ GENESIS presents OMEGA
Hush
Subgroundz
Don'tcha end up being fade up with the
usual stuff - or should I say what appears as re-edits of the same story
headlining the pioneers of techno ! – to be found on the proclamed specialized
press from a year to another when talking about Detroit ? Me, I do… Not that I
personaly have anything against those talents, but the capital of Michigan has
so much more on offer. Once again, it's just a matter of being open minded and,
subsequently, eared (if I may say so). Not to say doing what's supposed to be
expected from a reputed observer. I mean ; see what's currently happening, try
to understand where it's coming from and see where this may go.
No need to be a musicologist to know how
the Motorcity made itself a name primarly for being the hometown of soul music
in the seventies. A fact that no one in Detroit has had out of mind throughtout
the decades, finding resonnance in the works of a whole bunch of people from
Lathun to Pirahna Head, Dwele and Amp Fiddler to name
but a few. With musical tuition which would lead her to play instruments such as
flute, classical piano and even… valve trombone, head of Subgroundz label, DJ
Genesis is definitely on the case delivering a lascive phonky beat with the
eyeliner exactly where needed in terms of arrangements around Omega's
sultry organ. Amp Fiddler then DJ Dez of Slum Village
providing 2 alternative versions on the same cool vein, before Amp
joining Gen on a jazzy swinging along version destined to the crowds in
search of groovy jams. MFSB
