As you may have clearly realized, unless living on some desert island,
we've entered a brand new year, the story of which remains to be written. So
instead of providing you with our usual weekly interview, we're coming with
various elements of response regarding what to expect in 2K5, some of them to be
found no doubt within a 12 months time as the best of this year to come…
Although tons of
things remain to be done to get rid of the current disordered environment,
chances are big to see 2005 as the following step to… 2004 ! Well, many of you
might think that there's no need to come out of Harvard to claim such a evidence,
but History has sometimes proven to be far different…
As for the global situation's concern, it's quite hard to imagine the
things which have recently occured not being developped in the weeks/months to
come, such as the communication via Internet and the subsequent adaptation of
its
resources to the new rules of what such a situation suggests. Should it be
in terms of increasing organization of legal downloading, promotion, consumption
and so on with the possible launch of global networks sharing the same kind of
interests with components acting like sort of ambassadors of each other, the way
we've started operating here on IDMW.Com.
Then, what about
the vinyl and its own survival ? No doubt, another big if not quintessential
thema, we'll definitely come to talk about sooner or later as we hardly see it
finding its space on such an environment. Is it to become a luxury product ?
Something destined for the sole purpose of die hard collectors ??? I'd be
tempted to say yes to both of those Q's judging by the increasing cost of this
format from a year to another and the parallel development of new material such
as those turntables allowing users to play both vinyls, CD's and mp3 but, first
and foremost, tools definitely incompatible with the vinyl itself. Not to
mention the recent arrival of softwares allowing anyone to spin with mp3's… A
question leading to the future of the record industry itself and its absolute
necessity to be adapted to the increasing dematerialisation of the usual formats
which happen to be its main financial incomings by the time we're speaking.
We definitely
entered a transition period with all what such a situation suggests and there
are, as usual, two ways of seing it depending on who we individually are. In
other words, being either optimistic or not. Sure, we've had people recently
disappearing and it pretty looks like it's far from being over. But in the mean
time, new faces have appeared bringing a new breath to the whole meanwhile
embodying its future. And I'd be tempted to say that only the stronger are to
survive, as opposed to the countless followers if not untalented people who've
been allowed to show their faces with the help of the technology. Sure, there's
a necessity for a new cycle to come reestablishing the quality as opposed to the
quantity, following the footsteps of last year's tendency. And, no doubt neither,
it's an absolute matter of survival as it's also the best way to fight against
the threat of the so called unique thought. Judging by what we've observed last
year, there're hopefully many signs to make us pretty much optimistic and
thinking that the best is yet to come by the likes a hard workers whose
priceless contributions are to end up being fully recognised one day or another
by people in search of the right values.
Let us never be
said what to buy, where to go… how to think by the power of the finances, but
instead let's maintain our capacity of self control while keeping the entire
time to make ourselves our own idea of what is to be good or not.
In those times
of unceasing providing of instant informations, let's never forget that life
don't come easy. That there's an absolute need for work and consistancy as
opposed to taking anything for granted, the way our societies have pushed us to
believe these past 20 years.
The fight is
more of an individual affair. It's a matter of survival for our whole community.
Let's not leave people like Lil' Louis or Glenn Underground with
the idea of putting a definitive end to what they've achieved along the years
with the sole aim of pleasing us. Let's care about each of us the way a reputed
(spiritual) family's supposed to do with each of its members, having in mind the
fact that we're nothing but stronger when together.
2005 should
definitely bring a new amount of goodies by a whole bunch of beloved brothers
such as Quentin Harris, Raw Artistic Soul, Dennis Ferrer,
Kerri Chandler, Joe Claussell, François K., Franck Roger,
DJ Grégory, Bah Samba, Verna Francis, Masters At
Work and Frankie Valentine to name but a… phew ! They are the ones
who make our heart beat and for that, you definitely can count of us to bring'em
our total support.
Let's join,
together as one ! MFSB
