Quite ironical, the way things tend to go nowadays as far as the
promotion is concerned regarding an industry - or should I say a niche !!! – (I
mean of course the house music scene) which, on one hand, claims its lack of
exposure, although firmly attached to its affiliation to the underground and on
the other, hardly honours its supposed obligations in regards to the very rare
medias supporting it… So let me humbly ask you something pals : is this
definitely what we have to expect from you as ? Are these to be taken as your
good resolutions while entering this new year ? Who then do you think we are ?
I honestly have to say that I regularly feel
fed up with the attitudes of some people having me wondering at times if it's
really worth keeping on fighting the way we do when facing such a situation.
You'd like me to make myself a bit more explicit ? No prob, as this is the
privilege left to the independant to be able to express themselves freely.
I had quite a funny offer the other day.
Someone came to me asking me a favour helping him to promote a new release while
giving him a free ad on our site and you know what ? He wasn't even in the
position of offering me to send any material for a review, leaving me in the
obligation to buy a copy of the aforementioned at the record shop next door
should I like to be able to provide you with the info… Something I could have
been smiling if not laughing at on other circumstances, but this is far from
being the only case. I just got offered 3 weeks before the privilege of buying
some test pressing of a recent Swiss release by a UK promoter for £ 9.99 ! Was I
dreaming ? Naaaaa ! Could I have been drunk then ? No way !!! Was it a dream ?
Neither That's the way it f****** works folks… When you (our readers) honour us
with your regular visits, expecting us to deliver the most acurate information
as the most appropriate time, we spend our time and even more trying to get pics
or complementary infos as illustrations to our writings on our very own and end
up investing our money on a growing amount of records we do review for you. And
I'm not even talking about our investments on new material, server and travels
like when having us going abroad for some reports !
We're either said that we can't be served by
UK promoters due to the fact that we're based in France and that's about the
same regarding some French promoters due to the fact that they concentrate their
efforts abroad. As for the Japanese labels and the US ones now the shpping costs
have become totally insane, unless in the will to sponsor the post office… We've
started with an English written version that we've completed with a French one
last September, then what shall we do now ? A Croatian one ??? Have you – our
readers – with some pay per view area on our site in order to keep on being
informed ? Or having us selling our souls and go mainstream ?
Such a system can't survive for sure when
working as a sort of one way street with the same ones taking advantages out of
the same others. It's nothing but an elementary principle of life. And for sure,
we, at IDMW.Com will be placed one day or another in the
obligation to find approriate measures to survive, in or out, within or without
the house scene… MFSB
