Many people in their review of WMC / M3 noticed that top Djs played mainly with CD.
I feel that the vinyl disc has begun to dye.
Moreover, his burial is programmed for 2009!
The reason is extremely simple: the raw material will cease being manufactured!
In 1992 the chemical industry had already announced the deadline of manufacture of the raw material being used as a basis for the vinyl's discs: 2009; the process of refining of oil entering concerned the manufacture of this raw material would be definitively abandoned.
IoCe organization tried to develop and promote a project of "green" vinyl disc made with a derivate of polycarbonate in 1999. In any case, the project has not yet started. Many people are thinking that it will never started because the market seems not to be profitable.
The last solution could be recycling ?!
The revolution is now.
PS: IDMW wrote before about that, but I had to express my thoughts.

Well, it's true that we got more CD's than vinyls this year and the reasons are quite simple : the costs because of the weight, should it be with big volumes (air freight) or simply door to door delivery (thanks again to the mailing companies which have heavily contributed to such a situation).
Last but not least, it's also a matter of technology, seing more and more DJ's getting their material via mp3's then burn'em onto CDR's. Not to mention those dedicated programs such as Final Scratch and the others of the likes.
Is vynil to dissapear however ? Not that sure at the end of the day even though the manufacturers are less and less from a year to another.
This said, we've entered a full nu era and it doesn't look like the vinyl is a product of the future at least on a mass consumption vein.
Peace,
Frederic
