PROFILE: Wil Milton – DJ/Producer/Remixer – Gravity Party Resident DJ – NYC

You’ve heard him on THE CANDY STORE, NYC college radio in the 90’s, he’s been down with House Nation and served as resident DJ of Touch Tuesdays and Together in Spirit. This month, BounceFM.Com is proud to present Will Milton on the eve of his monthly Sunday residency, GRAVITY which takes place this coming Sunday, December 4th at Iguana. Wil is a true “dancer’s DJ” and keeps the dancers jackin’ from beginning to end. If you want to move, jump and jack your body, be sure to visit GRAVITY this Sunday. Here’s some of what Wil had to say:

OF ALL THE MUSIC IN THE WORLD, WHY DID YOU CHOOSE HOUSE?
I use the term Dance Music. My Choice of music is not limited to just one format of music. I was exposed to the music of 70’s R&B, which is the revolutionary product of the music we enjoying dancing to in clubs today. I also choose to incorporate Jazz, Rock, Latin and some Hip Hop Soul into my sets.

WHAT'S THE DUMBEST, OR FUNNIEST, THING YOU DID IN HIGH SCHOOL?
Joined dance class at Long island City High School, so that I could dance with the female students.

WHAT’S YOUR OPINION OF TODAY’S HOUSE MUSIC?
I love our music, Dance Music. However, our music lacks proper marketing strategies, and lack of Artist Development . . . Today, the artist is the DJ feat. A prestigious Artist, or new Artist. This is counterproductive . . . Many mentioned there is no money in dance music. . . .

WHICH CLUB HAS THE BEST DJ BOOTH?
Right now, I have to say Joe Clausell’s club, Club Love in NYC.

IF YOU WERE TO CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT NYC CLUB CULTURE, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
. . . Also, why have WMC in Miami. Our music is New York based.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR DJ SETS?
. . . I am big on programming, which requires, looking within, as well as being in tuned to the dance floor.

WHICH 3 RECORDS NEVER LEAVE YOUR CRATE?
Now That Love’s Come Around (12 inch ELEKTRA Promo),
Make It Last Forever-Inner Life (Salsoul Records, and
Twisted-Ultra Nate (Strictly Rhythm).

WHATS THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE MADE IN HOUSE MUSIC?
. . . Producers of dance music should learn to play an instrument.

DESCRIBE YOUR DJ STYLE
Message orientated, All formats of music.

WHAT SEPRATES A GOOD DJ FROM A GREAT ONE?
A great DJ takes risks. . . a great DJ does not play unreleased tracks all night. A great DJ, comes out of the booth, and shakes the hands of those who are left at the club. A great DJ does not audio file share some one else musical composition, or copyrights.
