Unlike the pirate soul scene, which has exploded over the last year or so, illegitimate house re-rubs have been a pretty constant feature for a good long while. Someone at Atlantic has obviously taken note of how Alan Smithee's breathtaking reinterpretation of a Natalie Cole track blew up, and has done
the honourable thing by getting him to legitimately touch up Brandy's latest offering.

Nestled between disgusting pop-trance mixes and cash hungry versions from those more worried about the dollars than the artistry involved, Alan Smithee's 'In Bluebackness Mix' is a gorgeous soul-aware revision. Brandy is transformed into a deep house diva, backed by fluttering flutes, a far-reaching bass and keys that chart the pain of hearsay.
