Posted: 15/11/2004 00:22 Post subject: THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED Pt. II…
Too many things kill the thing… Although many people would say that the amount of releases was about the same 30 years ago, the big difference is that the society at the time was far from being as mediatised as it is today. Not to mention, the way it used to work, probably not as obsessed (or differently) by immediate consumption as nowadays. This said, each situation reaches its limits one day or another and it pretty looks like many things have to change in order for us to survive…
Is this endly that Humanity is that fool to reproduce schemas leading to its self destruction from a period to another ? A quick look back at the so called cold war period aptly shows us how 2 opposed empires have nearly gone bankrupt in their will to see their respective ideologies dominate the world. And if the consequences to such an issue are more than obvious in Russia, having the majority of its population living in miserable conditions, let's not forget that if USA look like the only one left in the race, it's first and foremost because of their moneratary politics and more precisely their leading role on the money worldwide exchange rates allowing them to have the rest of the world paying a part of their enormous deficit.
Ever thought about what such a situation would be when applying to a single human being ? Forget about it and gotta say that it's supposed to be almost the same when dealing with a label.
Some people have thought that their situation might be better when trying to stuck to the crowd's expectations and if some of them have succeeded, cohorts of them have failed in the mean time, simply due to the fact that they've been focussing on the same niche. Look at what happened to those British mags who'd made their ways for some time while headlining with the current hype, displaying the usual gossips & clichés and promoting artifices as the ultimate way of (club) life… Look at what happened to some respected labels which had lost their images then lives while selling their souls to the trends ! Look at what happened to some early hour heroes who'd gone commercial by any means necessary… Is it that they've become more respected chosing such an option ? And by who by the way ? Have they even ended up having more self consideration ?
The response is NO WAY ! They'll surely be reminded for their early works as they paved the way but definitely not for the stack of crap they're providing us with nowadays… A part of the underground scene has gone M.O.R. meanwhile giving birth to a new underground generation which, aware of what its predeecessors have done, would be well inspired not to reproduce the same story.
It pretty looks like self identification is the antidote to our world's current processing of uniformisation. Let us never forget who we are and where we're coming from. It's the only way left to us to know where we're going to… MFSB
