UPSTAIRS

DOWNSTAIRS

Whether you’re enjoying the utter debauchery of spring break, ending a week of networking and/or partying at the Winter Music Conference or you’re a South Beach regular, you don’t want to miss the meeting of these two incomparable Latin music entities with Turntables on the Hudson. Miami Beach is the only location hot enough to host such a sultry event and to add some extra sizzle to the mix, expect live traditional Cuban congas n’ guanguanco to be fused with the usually massive Afro-Brazilian samba rhythms featured at ALMA.

ALMA, “All for the Love of Music & Art”, has created a unique sound they call “Neo-Brasilian Fusion”. It incorporates samba, pagode, soulful house, salsa, drum n’bass, mangue beat, nova bossa nova and so many other influences of resident Brazilian DJs True and Miller Cruz. This party has been rocking NYC with guests Ray Velasquez, Maracatu NY, Manhattan Samba, House of Rhumba, Grupo Capoeira Brasil, Tommy Bones and countless live guest musicians keeping everyone shaking their ‘groove thangs’ non-stop.

And you can expect the sleek Moroccan style of the venue Jade to add an extra sexiness to the already seductive sounds DJs Geo Leche and Sabo of The Latin Funk Music Festival will be laying down. Spinning for over two decades to the delight of audiences from Hong Kong to Mexico City, New York City's own Leche whips up a creamy rich blend of tropical rhythms with healthy doses of house and breaks to create his own distinct, savory flavor. While Sabo has been gaining international recognition with his new release, “JUMP/NYC” on WonderWheel Recordings produced by ZEB featuring Nappy G. He has toured Spain including playing at the Elektronikaldia Festival de San Sebastien in 2003 and he’s played at the PS-1 Warm Up Series and the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum's Friday after work series. He also frequently opens for the band Si*Se and has a weekly online radio show for EVR, www.eastvillageradio.org

And if that’s not enough, Turntables on the Hudson will be on the lower level with an ensemble of very talented guests of their own. DJs Nickodemus and Mariano of Turntables on the Hudson has been fusing live musicianship with their stellar international selections for audiences worldwide for over 10 years now and have always carried a heavy Latino influence. Nappy G will be live on the timbales and more, so come prepared for an all-inclusive, “party ‘til it hurts Miami-style” version of ALMA and Turntables on the Hudson. Brought to you directly from the Soul of New York, with Love via Brazil.
