Dazzle Drums is the two of Nagi(left) and Kei Sugano(right):a wife and husband who are the resident in Tokyo.
With releases on King Street and Nite Groove this couple our no strangers to those who like their house with feeling.
A cold wet Wednesday night in Shibuya Tokyo, Our label boss finds himself at one of the longest running nights in Tokyo, Smoker, Hosted by Dj Nori (Flower Records) and held at the one of Japan's most respected house music venue's Loop.
Whilst enjoying the free shoots at the bar (as you do), he ends up speaking with Nagi the female half of Dazzle Drums, after going through his whole "Let me sign your track" repertoire, which incidentally fell on deaf ears, he leaves her with a business card.
6 months later and after Loop owner DJ Mochizki plays a storming opening set at the Centric Music WMC party. He receives 2 tracks from Dazzle Drums one being ELEM, both tracks are signed on first listen and the rest we hope is an exciting history!!!
Opening with a slow burn build up, the original is a creeper knitted as tight as a cashmere sweater and with a definite Japanese feel to the sythn,chords and HEAVY bass line. The original can only be described as emotional deep house.
Chugging is a word we use a lot here at Centric, and it takes a while for those not in the know to cotton on to what where talking about. If you aren't sure what Chugging means take a listen to the Formation Soul Remix it epitomises that Chugging house sound we love. Keeping the hook from the original Formation Soul tweaks the remix it into some main room drama!
Our next remix is from a producer who needs no introduction 10 year Pacha resident and a crafter of over 50 house productions we are privileged to have Kiko Navarro work with us. Kiko's Retronic mix with its twisted synth and thumping piano lick comes in four flavours it a shame we can only put one on the limited vinyl release. Deep tech'ed out with an old skool base line. MAGIC
